the posting

At MicroVision, we're defining the next generation of lidar-based perception solutions for industrial, security & defense, and automotive markets and delivering integrated hardware and software solutions designed for real-world performance, automotive-grade reliability, and economic scalability. In this role, you will play a critical part in bringing innovative LiDAR and electro-optical sensing products from concept through volume production.

This position leads the development, validation, and release of assembly processes for optical, opto-mechanical, and microelectronic components used in our LiDAR sensors. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with structured problem-solving skills and collaborates effectively across Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to implement robust, scalable production processes.

What You'll Do

As a member of the Process Engineering team, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for optical assemblies and subassemblies. You will support the entire process lifecycle, from initial design and qualification through production release and continuous improvement. This includes:

Leading assembly process development for products containing optical, opto-mechanical, and microelectronic components from concept through production release;

Developing, validating, and improving manufacturing processes to increase yield, reduce cycle time, and enhance product quality.

Analyzing and optimizing electronic and microelectronic assembly processes to improve performance and manufacturability;

Developing and refining optical setup and alignment methods to improve precision, repeatability, and process capability;

Leading process planning and qualification activities, including PFDs, block diagrams, PFMEAs, capacity and feasibility studies, and specs and RFQs;

Evaluating, specifying, procuring, and qualifying production equipment, tooling, and fixtures, including vendor selection and qualification;

Participating in design reviews and leading manufacturing equipment acceptance and buy-off activities;

Providing technical support, troubleshooting, and process improvement guidance for production operations;

Creating and maintaining BOMs, manufacturing routings, work instructions, and operator training materials;

Driving continuous improvement initiatives using statistical and analytical methods such as SPC, DOE, and Gauge R&R, along with Lean and Six Sigma principles.

Partnering with Product Engineering to ensure designs support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) objectives;

Leading capacity expansion and production scaling initiatives through process and equipment improvements.

Success in this role requires:

At least a Bachelor’s degree in Optics/Opto-mechanics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field;

5+ years of experience developing, qualifying, and supporting production assembly processes for optical, opto-mechanical, microelectronic, or precision electromechanical products;

Experience taking products from development through production launch and volume manufacturing; and

Strong problem-solving skills and experience using structured engineering methodologies

Even better if you have

Experience in automotive manufacturing and standards (e.g., IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP);

Proficiency with imaging and machine vision systems (cameras, lenses, lighting);

Experience with, or training in, Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies;

Demonstrated ownership of PFMEA creation and execution; and/or

Proven track record of setting up new product lines and ramping them to volume production.
