About the role
Reworld's Procurement Specialist supports plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and supply chain activities through end-to-end procurement ownership. Supporting facilities in Bristol and Preston, Connecticut, this role combines strategic sourcing, supplier development, services procurement, contract administration, and purchasing to strengthen plant reliability, manage costs, and support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.
At Reworld, procurement professionals directly impact plant performance and long-term business success. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Corporate Procurement, the Procurement Specialist secures critical materials, services, and supplier partnerships across a nationwide network of facilities.
As the primary procurement resource for the assigned facilities, you will balance immediate operational needs with longer-term sourcing initiatives. You will identify and develop new suppliers, evaluate commercial proposals, negotiate agreements, and help internal teams understand and follow procurement processes. Success requires sound commercial judgment and the ability to navigate challenging conversations, address stakeholder pushback, and build support for change. You should be comfortable explaining the reasons behind procurement requirements and helping others apply them effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives aligned with facility needs, assigned spend categories, and corporate procurement objectives.
- Identify, qualify, and develop new suppliers that expand sourcing options, strengthen service capabilities, and improve supply continuity.
- Manage supplier qualification, onboarding, ongoing relationships, and performance oversight.
- Lead requests for information, quotations, and proposals, including bid solicitation, receipt, evaluation, pricing analysis, market comparisons, and supplier selection.
- Coordinate bid review meetings, supplier conferences, technical discussions, supplier visits, and facility walkdowns.
- Lead cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining quality, safety, service, and supplier performance expectations.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other stakeholders to develop clear scopes of work, technical requirements, and supplier expectations for plant services, maintenance activities, and capital projects.
- Evaluate service proposals for scope completeness, labor hours, labor rates, materials, equipment, commercial terms, and overall value.
- Work with technical stakeholders to understand how proposed services support plant operations and to clarify differences between supplier bids.
- Negotiate commercial terms, coordinate with appropriate internal partners on contract review and execution, and facilitate contract awards.
- Monitor supplier performance and contract compliance; recommend amendments, renewals, or extensions as needed.
- Address supplier disputes and performance concerns professionally, balancing operational requirements with contractual and financial objectives.
- Issue and manage purchase orders, monitor delivery schedules, track shipments, and expedite critical materials and services.
- Use procurement and supply chain management platforms to support supplier information, quoting, bidding, purchasing, and order tracking.
- Use Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and VLOOKUP, to analyze spend, compare bids, monitor supplier performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Compile procurement, cost, and supplier data to support annual budgets, financial planning, and sourcing decisions.
- Support the sourcing and transfer of maintenance spare parts across facilities to optimize inventory utilization and support corporate inventory management strategies.
- Support supplier quality assurance programs and procurement process compliance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between facility personnel and suppliers.
- Build productive relationships across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate Procurement.
- Educate and train internal stakeholders on procurement systems, policies, and processes, including the business reasons behind required procedures.
- Manage challenging or confrontational conversations constructively, resolve disagreements, and motivate stakeholders to adopt needed process changes.
- Manage competing priorities and communicate clearly about sourcing decisions, supplier commitments, delivery risks, and procurement requirements.
- Participate in regional and corporate procurement meetings and initiatives.
Qualifications
- At least three years of relevant experience in procurement, sourcing, purchasing, supply chain, contract administration, supplier management, or industrial operations.
- Working knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier qualification and development, competitive bidding, commercial negotiations, and contract management.
- Experience purchasing or managing services, including reviewing scopes of work, evaluating labor hours and costs, and comparing supplier proposals with technical stakeholders.
- Experience using procurement, supply chain, or ERP platforms for quoting, bidding, purchase orders, and delivery tracking. Jaggaer preferred; PeopleSoft or comparable systems accepted.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and VLOOKUP, to analyze spend, compare bids, and support procurement decisions.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to handle confrontational conversations professionally, resolve supplier and stakeholder disagreements, and maintain productive working relationships.
- Ability to explain the business reasons behind procurement requirements, educate stakeholders, and build support for process changes when facing resistance.
- Sound analytical skills and business judgment, with the ability to balance plant needs, supplier capabilities, quality, service, and cost while managing competing priorities independently and across teams.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, energy, utilities, power generation, or other industrial environments preferred. Backgrounds involving maintenance services, MRO, packaging, indirect procurement, or capital projects are especially relevant.
- Demonstrated success developing suppliers, reducing costs, improving supplier performance, or strengthening procurement processes preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Finance, or a related field preferred.
