Why this role exists

Inc42 is building its YouTube division from 0 to 1. We're revamping the channel, setting the strategy, building the formats and scaling it – long-form explainers, founder conversations, podcasts and original IPs built on a decade of startup journalism and data.

Every one of those videos needs someone who owns it from idea to published: finds the angle, writes the script, shapes the conversation, runs the shoot, briefs the edit and packages it for the click. That's this role.

What you'll own

• •Scripts for explainers: Pull the angle out of a news story, a feature or a dataset, and structure it for video, hook first.
• •Podcast and founder-conversation structure: Pre-interviews, question flow, the cold open, and the narrative shape you hand the editor.
• •Shoot production: Shoot calendar, call sheets, crew, location, equipment and the day itself, as the person responsible for it.
• •Editor and vendor briefs: Shot lists and clip notes precise enough that cuts come back close to spec on the first pass.
• •YouTube packaging: First drafts of titles, thumbnails, descriptions and chapters, plus the tests that tell us which one worked.
• •Delivery for branded content: Shoot logistics and review rounds for partner videos, so a client shoot ships on the date it was promised.
• •The performance loop: Read how each video performed every week and feed it back into the next script.

Who you are

• •A writer for video: You write for the ear and the eye. Your scripts have a visual column, not just paragraphs.
• •A producer who runs the day: You've owned shoots, not assisted on them.
• •Obsessed with the first ten seconds: You can look at a cut and say where a viewer leaves and what the opening is missing.
• •Curious about startups and business: You read the ecosystem because you want to, and you can pitch three stories from this week's news.
• •Comfortable with performance data: Views, click-through and retention change what you make next.
• •Calm with many stakeholders: Editors, vendors, editorial reviewers and partners, all on one timeline.
• •Open on background: Digital newsrooms, business video, podcast studios, or your own YouTube channel. A creator who writes and produces their own work is exactly who we want to hear from.

Must have: 4–6 years as a producer, video journalist, multimedia journalist or creator · scripts you've written that were produced · shoots you've run · strong written English.

Good to have: confident on camera, with solid delivery, for pieces that call for it · podcast production · explainer post-production · a degree in communication, journalism or film (strong portfolios considered without it).

Your first 30 days

• •Learn the channel, the formats in production and the review steps.
• •Take over the production calendar for the live slate.
• •Script and produce your first explainer and your first podcast episode.
• •Draft the packaging (titles and thumbnails) for everything that ships in the month.
