Product Manager
Our mission is to advance humanity's ability to engineer biology. We approach this by understanding and improving AI's application to biology across basic research, drug discovery, and biosecurity. We are a team of engineers, scientists, and operations specialists who are driven by improving capabilities and interpretability. Some of our work is showcased on benchmarks.bio .
The role. Our science team is growing past 100 people, and they're the main users of our platform. We need someone to make that platform great to work in, turning what our scientists and operations team need into clear priorities and making sure what we build actually makes their work better. You'll report to our Chief Product Officer, Hannah Le.
What you'll do.
Be the voice of our scientists. More than 100 scientists use our platform every day. You'll talk with dozens of them each week, find where their work gets harder than it should be, and turn that into clear priorities for engineering.
Be the voice of operations. Running a large scientific team means tracking progress, staffing projects, and knowing what each one needs. You'll understand those challenges firsthand and prioritize the features that make them easier.
Own outcomes, not just features. You'll define the metrics that matter and work with engineering to move them, framing work by impact so the team spends its effort where it counts most.
What you bring.
An obsession with user experience. You care deeply about the details that make a product feel good to use, and about the people who rely on it: scientists, engineers, and operations.
Design taste and prototyping as a baseline. You put yourself in a scientist's shoes and mock up flows yourself, in Figma and with AI tools like Claude, so engineers see exactly what you mean. This is expected, not a bonus.
Willing to get into the weeds, and strategic. You dig into how people actually work, then step back, find the biggest pain points, and focus the team where it will have the most impact.
You don't need to be a scientist ; an undergraduate biology background is enough.
How we work. We're extremely tied to the truth. We care about output and are flexible enough to let people work the way that works for them. This role is on-site in San Francisco, close to science, partnerships, operations, and engineering. We meet as a team Mondays and Fridays, plus ad hoc when we need to. We don't track when you come in or leave, and PTO is unlimited. What matters most is that projects ship well and on time.
Culture. We believe in radical transparency: you'll know how the company is doing, what's working, and what isn't. It's always us against the problem, never each other. We're opinionated but respectful, and we bring solutions along with the problems. We keep meetings to a minimum and judge people on innovation and output, not hours. Outside of work we have company outings most months, team off-sites, run club, cycling, boxing, ice skating, and soccer; feel free to add to the list.
