Production Manager

Our mission is to advance humanity's ability to engineer biology. We approach this by understanding and improving AI’s application to biology across basic research, drug discovery, and biosecurity. We are a team of engineers, scientists, and operations specialists who are driven by improving capabilities and interpretability. Some of our work is showcased on benchmarks.bio .

The role. Our science team is growing past 100 people, and someone needs to own how their work gets staffed and delivered. You'll make sure the right scientists are on the right projects, and that everything ships on time and on budget. You'll report to our Chief Product Officer, Hannah Le.

What you'll do.

Match people to projects. Know the strengths, growth areas, and availability of every scientist on the team, and put them where they'll do their best work, without being their manager.

Plan projects. Gather customer requirements, make sure the team understands them, and work with sales and engineering to set scope and timelines we can hit.

Own production and revenue. Track output and costs across every project, partner with finance to forecast and deliver against targets, and work with engineering on tools that make delivery faster and cheaper.

Shape scientific direction. Understand the science behind our work, and help develop new projects that build on the team's strengths.

What you bring.

A science background in biology. You've done real scientific work, at the bench or computationally. You know the difference between a single-cell analyst and a statistical geneticist, and why it matters for who goes on which project. An MS or PhD is a plus; hands-on experience counts just as much.

Experience running scientific delivery. A few years managing projects or production for a team of experts, such as at a CRO, core facility, or biotech, juggling many projects at once with real deadlines and quality bars.

Great intuition for matching scientists to work. You read someone's expertise quickly, whether it's proteomics, genomics, cell therapy, or structural biology, and put them where they fit.

Steady under shifting priorities. When a customer changes scope or a deadline moves, you re-plan fast and keep everyone aligned.

How we work. We're extremely tied to the truth. We care about output and are flexible enough to let people work the way that works for them. This role is on-site in San Francisco, close to science, partnerships, operations, and engineering. We meet as a team Mondays and Fridays, plus ad hoc when we need to. We don't track when you come in or leave, and PTO is unlimited. What matters most is that projects ship well and on time.

Culture. We believe in radical transparency: you'll know how the company is doing, what's working, and what isn't. It's always us against the problem, never each other. We're opinionated but respectful, and we bring solutions along with the problems. We keep meetings to a minimum and judge people on innovation and output, not hours. Outside of work we have company outings most months, team off-sites, run club, cycling, boxing, ice skating, and soccer; feel free to add to the list.
