Description

Studio Gang is seeking a full-time Project Accountant based in our New York office. You will own the project accounting function across all four of our offices, from monthly billing and revenue recognition to project financial oversight, and help bring structure, accuracy and stronger processes to how the Studio manages project financials.

The role reports to our Director of Finance and works closely with Project Managers and Studio leadership. We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented team player who is comfortable resolving historical inconsistencies, improving workflows and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Responsibilities

PROJECT FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, profitability and remaining fees, and investigate variances
  • Support project forecasting, including estimates to complete and anticipated profitability
  • Lead regular financial reviews with Project Managers and flag revenue leakage, budget overruns and unbilled services to help identify opportunities for additional services, contract amendments and recoverable expenses

BILLING, REVENUE AND ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

  • Own the monthly billing cycle, issuing accurate, timely invoices with backup to each client’s requirements
  • Monitor unbilled revenue and WIP and support month-end close to ensure revenue is accurately captured and recognized
  • Review and process consultant invoices and reimbursable expenses in line with contract terms
  • Support AR collections by resolving billing discrepancies and coordinating follow-up with project leaders
  • Coordinate with the Paris-based accounting team on billing for European projects

PROJECT SETUP, RECORDS AND REPORTING

  • Oversee accurate project setup, including numbering, contract values, fee structures, billing terms and consultant budgets, and keep records current through amendments and budget revisions
  • Maintain and reconcile project data in Deltek Vantagepoint and produce reports that give Project Managers and leadership clear visibility into project performance

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

  • Clean up existing project accounting records and resolve historical inconsistencies
  • Partner with the Director of Finance to streamline processes, strengthen controls and establish consistent procedures across offices
  • Support other finance initiatives as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business and 5+ years of related experience
  • Design and AEC industry experience required, architecture firm experience preferred
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, building reports)
  • Proven ability to investigate discrepancies, reconcile project financials and improve processes
  • Strong organizational, communication and relationship skills, with the ability to work effectively with Project Managers and leadership
  • Discretion with sensitive and confidential information

Benefits

Studio Gang provides a generous and competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as HSA and FSA options. Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of paid time off annually, with increases based on experience and tenure. The Studio also offers a 401(k) program featuring an annual Studio-sponsored Safe Harbor contribution. All employees are eligible for discretionary bonuses and profit sharing, determined by individual performance and Studio profitability.
