Description
We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the coordination, development, testing, and production launch of our lighting products. This position works closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, customer service, OEM customers, and our overseas suppliers to bring products from concept through production while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end: keeping schedules on track, keeping suppliers and customers informed, getting hands-on in the lab to validate product samples, and growing with an expanding engineering team.
- Location: Hauppauge, NY | On-Site
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned engineering projects from concept through production with internal teams, OEM customers, and overseas suppliers, owning schedules, open issues, and follow-through
- Serve as a point of contact with overseas suppliers on assigned projects: sample orders, engineering changes, quoting support, shipment tracking, and issue resolution
- Support the product evaluation process, ensuring incoming samples have an owner, a test plan, and a documented result
- Perform hands-on product testing, sample evaluation, and troubleshooting in a lab environment
- Identify project risks early, develop mitigation plans, and escalate decisions with clear options and recommendations
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, product instruction sheets, and technical work instructions; coordinate engineering change documentation and ensure compliance with ISO-controlled documentation requirements
- Analyze returned products, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions with suppliers
- Provide technical support to Customer Service and manufacturing partners
- Provide technical guidance and project support to junior engineers and technicians
- Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives, including coordination of hardware, firmware, and software integration efforts
- Execute additional engineering projects and responsibilities as assigned to meet company and department objectives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 4 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with suppliers, customers, and internal teams
- Experience communicating and working directly with overseas suppliers, preferably in the Asia-Pacific region
- Experience with electrical product development, troubleshooting, product testing, and continuous improvement; able to read schematics and evaluate designs
- Knowledge of ISO quality systems and engineering documentation
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects
- Customer-focused with a mature, professional presence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, or residential lighting products
- Familiarity with automotive or residential compliance and testing: UL/SAE / DOT / FMVSS-108, photometric testing, IP ratings
- Experience with PPAP, APQP, and 8D problem-solving processes
- Working knowledge of programming languages such as C or Python
- Experience with Altium, MPLAB, LabVIEW, FileMaker Pro, Asana, or similar engineering and project tools
