About the Role
Reporting to the SVP, Business Transformation PMO, the Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of cross-functional projects. Working closely with business leaders, project teams, and key stakeholders to define project objectives, establish clear plans, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure deliverables meet business requirements and quality standards.
You will provide hands-on leadership throughout the project lifecycle, proactively manage risks and dependencies, and maintain clear communication to keep projects aligned and on track. Project governance and documentation must be proportionate to project size, risk and aligned with EPMO standards.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead projects from initiation through implementation and closeout, ensuring delivery within approved scope, timelines, and budget.
- Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to define project objectives, requirements, deliverables, and success measures.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans with work breakdowns, task owners, effort estimates, milestones, dependencies, critical paths, and approved schedule baselines; assess slippage and maintain recovery plans.
- Establish proportionate project governance, a RACI matrix, decision and approval authorities, escalation paths, and delivery gates in alignment with EPMO standards.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, resource allocation, and financial reporting, escalating variances as required.
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams and external partners to ensure accountability and timely completion of deliverables.
- Establish and lead a consistent project cadence, including weekly delivery meetings and status updates, sponsor reviews, and steering committee meetings appropriate to project needs. Issue agendas, record decisions and actions with owners and due dates, and follow through to closure.
- Provide accurate, evidence-based status reporting covering milestone progress, budget and forecast, resource capacity, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions required. Explain variances and corrective actions; avoid reporting a project as on track when evidence indicates otherwise.
- Maintain a current risk, issue, assumption, and dependency log with owners, mitigation actions, due dates, and escalation triggers. Identify cross-project dependencies and escalate emerging threats early, with options and a recommended course of action.
- Manage scope and change requests through documented impact analysis covering cost, schedule, resources, dependencies, and benefits; obtain required approvals before changing baselines or committing additional work.
- Investigate delivery challenges, hold action owners accountable, and drive corrective and recovery plans. Escalate unresolved barriers or overdue decisions promptly through agreed governance channels.
- Independently create and maintain the required project documentation from inception through closure: charter, scope and requirements, integrated plan, budget and forecast, resource plan and RACI, stakeholder and communication plan, risk and issue log, action and decision logs, status reports, change requests, acceptance records, and closure report. Keep documents current, version-controlled, and accessible in the designated repository.
- Coordinate business readiness, stakeholder engagement, communications, training, and adoption activities with business owners and change management leads; define readiness criteria and surface adoption risks before implementation.
- Define deliverable acceptance criteria and coordinate quality reviews, testing and user acceptance testing where applicable. Obtain documented business sign-off and confirm operational readiness before recommending go-live or closure.
- Maintain resource mapping across assigned projects, showing required skills, named resources, estimated effort, availability, and allocation over time. Validate capacity with functional leaders, identify over-allocation and conflicting priorities, and recommend sequencing or staffing adjustments before committing delivery dates.
- Select and apply appropriate predictive, agile, or hybrid delivery methods within EPMO standards; tailor controls to the project while maintaining clear accountability and traceability.
- Complete formal project closeout, including business acceptance, budget reconciliation, lessons learned, documentation handover, and transition to operational owners with support responsibilities and outstanding actions. Agree benefit measures, baselines, and post-implementation review ownership with the sponsor.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes, templates, tools, and governance practices.
- Provide coaching and guidance to project team members and stakeholders on project management expectations and practices.
- Manage external delivery partners against agreed statements of work, milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria; validate deliverables and flag scope gaps, performance concerns, or additional charges before commitments are made.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive project management experience, including responsibility for leading cross-functional projects.
- Demonstrated experience independently leading cross-functional projects from initiation through implementation and closeout, with examples of results achieved against agreed scope, schedule, budget, and business outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance practices, tools, and best practices.
- Proven ability to independently build and maintain project charters, integrated schedules, budgets and forecasts, resource plans, governance materials, risk and issue logs, status reports, and executive presentations; practical delivery experience is essential.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with shared resources, validate team capacity, negotiate priorities with functional leaders, and resolve competing demands.
- Proficiency with project scheduling and collaboration tools and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint; able to build dependency-based schedules, resource views, and clear management reporting.
- Experience supporting change management, process improvement, or business transformation initiatives is an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred. Certification must be supported by demonstrated hands-on delivery experience and the ability to apply project management practices in a lean, evolving organization.
- Experience in a complex, multi-business, retail, manufacturing, or regulated environment is an asset.
- Experience recovering delayed or at-risk projects, including root-cause assessment, re-planning, stakeholder alignment, and sustained follow-through.
