OVERVIEW:

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal control functions for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, an integrated entertainment destination that combines casino gaming, hotel accommodations, food and beverage operations, live entertainment, and exceptional guest experiences. This role ensures the integrity of financial operations, compliance with gaming regulations, corporate policies, and applicable accounting standards. The Financial Controller provides strategic financial leadership by managing revenue reporting, cash controls, audits, forecasting, and financial analysis while supporting operational leaders in achieving business objectives. As a key member of the leadership team, the Financial Controller helps drive profitability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all gaming and non-gaming areas of the property.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• •Ensure activities comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, legal demands and professional and ethical standards.
• •Analyzes fluctuations in departmental results and variances from budgets.
• •Supports the annual budget process. Develops historical, current and potential future trend analysis
• •Develops, analyzes and interprets statistical and accounting information in order to assess operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget.
• •Works with external and internal auditors as well as other third parties on financial matters as necessary.
• •Manages the monthly financial closing process.
• •Prepares financial reports, balance sheet reconciliations, reviewing and documentation of systems, policies, and procedures and standards of various financial areas where appropriate.
• •Review and assist with journal entries.
• •Review and assist with bank reconciliations.
• •Gathers and maintains information to assist with Quarterly and Yearly Audits for Internal and External auditors.
• •Ensures integrity of financial statements and balance sheet accounting.
• •Reviews and approves all legally required Federal and state tax returns and filings within required deadlines.
• •Informs the Vice President of Finance of any legal, auditing or other significant problems.
• •Develop team members’ knowledge and skills through education, training, coaching, corrective counseling, etc.
• •Adhere to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and other applicable municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• •Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• •Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
• •Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• •Previous experience in a casino, gaming, hospitality, or other highly regulated environment preferred.
• •Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit management.
• •Knowledge of gaming regulations, anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, and regulatory compliance.
• •Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial reporting systems, and ERP/accounting software.
• •Demonstrated leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• •Ability to obtain and maintain all required gaming licenses and registrations
• •Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, Provincial, and Gaming Commission
• •Prior experience opening new properties/outlets preferred.
• •Must be Nineteen (19) years of age.
• •Must be able to work on holidays and weekends, as well as flexible shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• •Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
• •Ability to walk distances.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties and responsibilities are typically performed in a highly regulated and controlled environment, but there will be times where you will need to be on the Casino Floor to complete job functions as outlined or pass through this area. On the Casino Floor, you may be exposed to casino-related environmental factors including, but not limited to, excessive noise.
