Job Description Summary:
The Psychiatric Safety Officer is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property by rounding in behavioral health units, engaging patients and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment while working in collaboration with clinical teams.
Responsibilities And Duties:
- Promptly attends to escalating incidents and proactively identifies issues and acts appropriately to eliminate safety hazards.
- Assists in re-direction and de-escalation of patient situations. Works to prevent aggressive behavior, seclusion, and restraint by utilizing the least restrictive methods, as indicated by the Aegis System Crisis Prevention and De-Escalation training, and Protective Services Training.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate using least restrictive methods, as indicated by The Aegis System Crisis Prevention and De-Escalation training.
- Actively engages patients in therapeutic activities. Exhibits a professional image and demeanor. Utilizes interpersonal skills and customer service abilities to create a positive environment for patients and visitors.
- Supports and enforces all Protective Service and unit policies.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation, and internal and external disaster plans.
- Remains in assigned area and completes all specified duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School or GED (Required)
Additional Job Description:
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Associate degree in a related field is preferred
- Two years of prior experience within a behavioral health facility, corrections facility, healthcare facility or other related experience.
