The Opportunity
The Quality Control Inspector supports API by ensuring that products meet API’s quality standards and specifications. The role involves inspecting, testing, and evaluating incoming materials, components, and finished products per applicable technical data; verifying the timely and accurate receipt of materials; and sorting, counting, and preparing materials for organized and efficient storage in the API warehouse. The Quality Control Inspector works with other departments to identify and resolve quality issues and to support inventory management activities as appropriate. Additionally, the Quality Control Inspector will support Quality System processes and activities in collaboration with other Quality Department personnel.
What You'll Do
- Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections and testing of incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products using calibrated equipment, for quality, quantity, and compliance with purchase orders, technical data, and company standards.
- Review material test reports (MTRs) and certifications for incoming products and raw materials for compliance with specifications.
- Record inspection and test results accurately; analyze and present data in written format.
- Enter QC inputs into the NC system and support the Non-Conforming Material process, communicating material issues to Engineering, Operations, and Purchasing.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address quality issues promptly.
- Sort, count, and prepare materials for warehouse storage; support Purchasing and Warehouse teams in prioritizing incoming deliveries to meet production needs.
- Maintain accurate receiving and inventory records (bills of lading, packing slips, etc.), report inventory discrepancies, and support other departments in tracking stock levels.
- Properly use and care for inspection tools and gauges, and verify calibration status before use.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations during receiving and inspection, and report any safety concerns promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and recommend ways to streamline receiving and inspection, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
- Other Quality System duties as assigned by the Head of Quality & Engineering.
Experience & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of QC inspection experience in a manufacturing, receiving, or related technical environment.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, accurate record-keeping, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using quality control tools for part inspection.
- Prior experience safely operating material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, stretch-wrap equipment, etc.
- Receiving QC inspection procedures, or ability to learn them quickly.
- Familiarity with quality control/quality assurance principles and quality management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (including geometric tolerances), specifications, procedures, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of inspection and testing techniques and test and measurement equipment, including common measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, thread gauges).
- Data collection and basic analysis.
- Working knowledge of receiving, storage, warehousing, and material handling (packaging, sorting, and basic inspections).
Even Better If You Have
- Associate or technical degree in quality assurance, manufacturing technology, or a related discipline.
- QC-related experience in the metalworking, HVAC, or Pipe, Valve, and Fitting industry.
- Basic knowledge of 2D/3D CAD; experience with Autodesk software is a bonus.
- Knowledge of safety regulations.
- Willingness to take courses relating to this position.
