JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer for Alloy Surfaces Company (ASC) is responsible for coordinating daily quality activities within an assigned role or program to support products designed and delivered to military, defense, or commercial customers. This position supports program and product quality requirements and serves as a point of contact for assigned customer quality matters. Quality Engineer ensures that incoming parts and components characteristics are in alignment with process capability, in order to manufacture products that and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. The Quality Engineer represents Quality Assurance when working on assigned programs and activities. The role supports root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives and may interact directly with customers regarding quality-related concerns, audits, and issue resolution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Audit supplier processes, review incoming inspection data, and issue supplier corrective action requests when purchased components/parts do not conform to requirements or delivery quality targets
- Support supplier quality responsibilities, including supplier corrective actions, supplier audits, supplier selection and approval, supplier quality performance ratings and reviews, and supplier follow up actions when assigned
- Ensure compliance with customer and/or industry requirements needed for product design and assembly
- Ensure compliance with ASC’s Quality Management System (QMS) and other internal procedures and requirements
- Coordinate and facilitate customer-required test witnessing and examination of product functions, including arranging for and supporting customer source inspections in accordance with contractual requirements
- Conduct quality tests, compile and analyze performance data, prepare detailed reports, and present findings to support product and process improvements
- Understand and interpret all manufacturing audits, including AS9100D, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and other industry standards
- Review and interpret customer, engineering, and manufacturing specifications to lead internal quality activities, drive root cause analysis, validate corrective actions, and ensure final outcomes meet quality and compliance requirements
- Support integrated product/process teams, including analysis of data, development of action plans, problem solving, and carrying out actions to meet objectives
- Provide guidance to other positions within Quality Assurance in support of development and problem solving
- With supervisory support, initiate follow-up of non-conformance reports through closure; participate in corrective action processes as required
- Professionally lead or participate in customer-related communications, activities, and investigations as assigned
- Lead or perform internal audits, prepare audit reports, and follow findings through closure; provide guidance to internal auditors who typically work outside Quality Assurance to improve their capabilities
- Support audits and process review/changes related to DCMA, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Project/Program Books, and related activities

Requirements
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Six Sigma Green Belt / Lean Six Sigma training preferred
- RCCM / RCCA structured problem-solving training preferred
- ASQ Certifications preferred: Organizational Excellence, Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt, Quality Auditor preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a first line quality function (e.g. auditing, quality systems coordination, or inspection) in a regulated environment
- Experience in manufacturing environment in the areas of supplier quality, statistical techniques, failure analysis and corrective action
- Experience supporting U.S. Government contracting activities, including FAR, DFARS, and DCMA requirements
- Experience with AS9100/ISO9001 QMS requirements to support quality system operations
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance commensurate with the level of facility clearance
- Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to apply sound judgment, initiative, and creativity to complex technical challenges
- Strong knowledge of Lean principles and a demonstrated continuous improvement mindset
- Proven ability to develop quality systems and procedures supporting new products from prototype through full-rate production
- Ability to develop reports, business correspondence, technical documentation, and quality procedures
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, testing, and Q/A principles
- Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach
- Experience in reporting on key quality metrics
- Use of quality improvement tools - mistake-proofing/poke-yoke, 5-S, visual management aids, capability studies, A3 problem analysis tools, etc
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Use of computer.
