Quantum Infrastructure Intern 2027 - Networking automation

As part of Quantum Operations, our mission is to build, maintain, and continuously elevate the foundational environment that enables the development and delivery of our Quantum solutions to customers. Our team brings together expertise across Security, Infrastructure, Reliability, Testing, and Performance to ensure our platform remains robust, scalable, and secure. We're looking for a Networking Intern to join our infrastructure team and support the automation of network operations. This role is ideal for a student currently pursuing a degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field — no prior professional experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to learn. You'll work closely with experienced engineers who will guide you as you apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Your main focus will be helping to build and maintain scripts and tools that automate routine network tasks, such as configuration deployment, monitoring, and reporting, using technologies like Python and Ansible. Rather than network design or architecture, the emphasis is on learning how automation makes network operations more efficient and reliable — you'll also shadow troubleshooting sessions, help document processes, and contribute to small automation projects along the way. Currently pursuing a degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Basic knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Python Familiarity with fundamental networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching) gained through coursework or personal projects Exposure to or interest in automation tools and concepts (e.g., Ansible, REST APIs, Git) Basic understanding of Linux/Unix environments Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn new technologies Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team Personal or academic projects involving scripting, automation, or network simulation (e.g., GNS3, Packet Tracer, home lab) Familiarity with version control tools such as Git Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud) or containerization basics (Docker) Relevant coursework or certifications in progress (e.g., CCNA, Python, or scripting courses) United States Infrastructure & Technology Internship Yorktown Heights, US (0147) International Business Machines Corporation
