Quantum Runtime Framework Intern 2027

IBM Quantum is seeking motivated computer science students to learn about and develop the world's first large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer. You will help extend and improve our local developer experience around automated bringup and integration testing of the software components that orchestrate low-level Quantum job execution. Improve local developer experience for automated bringup and integration testing of runtime software components. Design and implement Bazel-based build and test workflows for runtime framework components. Develop and maintain local Kubernetes (K3s, Minikube, etc.) environments that reproduce production-like test scenarios. Containerize and automate integration test pipelines using Docker. Collaborate with runtime, compiler, and systems software teams to identify and close developer-experience gaps. Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Experience with Rust and Docker. Experience with local Kubernetes environments such as K3s or Minikube. Experience with Git, Linux, and command-line environments. Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience with Bazel or other hermetic/reproducible build systems. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integration testing frameworks. Experience with observability systems such as Prometheus, MQTT, and Grafana. Experience with Quantum computing concepts.
