Summary
Collect and account for fees at various locations interacting with visitors and sharing information. Serve as front-line representative to answer questions and offer guidance to guests. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for these positions are variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April - May 2027. Open to the first 400 applicants.
Duties
Some of the Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician Standard Duties include but are not limited to: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Additional duties for GS-04: Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions; issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies needed. Additional duties for GS-05: Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST of the closing date of this announcement or when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than (10/12/2026). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your 2 page resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Resumes must not exceed two single-sided pages and resumes longer than two pages will not be accepted. You may only submit one resume. Only the document submitted as the "Resume" under the Documents section will be used to determine your qualifications/eligibility and for rating purposes. In the event you submit more than one resume, only the latest submission will be reviewed. Quality Ranking Factor: Handling Money - able to handle, collect, and account for money. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates your ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk. -OR- B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-05. Examples of specialized experience include collecting, handling, tracking, or depositing monies; conducting sales or fee transactions using cash registers, computers, calculators, or point-of-sale systems; performing opening and closing functions for a cash drawer or fee station; maintaining financial, fee, or stock records using automated systems or software; inventorying or restocking accountable stock; preparing routine deposits or transaction records; and reconciling assigned funds or transactions to ensure amounts and records are accurate. The experience must demonstrate direct responsibility for processing and accounting for the applicant's assigned financial transactions, funds, records, or accountable stock. General customer service experience or incidental use of a cash register is not qualifying by itself. -OR- B. Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign education programs and that (1) deemed your education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or (2) given full credit for courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
