Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program EDRP Join the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System as a Rehab and Extended Care Registered Nurse and provide compassionate, Veteran-centered care in the Community Living Center. Coordinate care across the continuum, administer medications and treatments, support patient and family education, monitor pain and skin integrity, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to improve outcomes.

Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 2, 2026. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. All referred applicants receive a final notification once a selection decision has been made. There is no need to reapply if not originally selected. As a Registered Nurse with the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, you will play an essential role in helping Veterans maintain or regain optimal function, prepare for transitions in care, and successfully manage their health after discharge. You will work alongside an interdisciplinary team to deliver coordinated, individualized care while engaging Veterans and their families as active partners in care planning. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen your clinical practice, contribute to quality improvement, and support meaningful outcomes for Veterans in a collaborative Community Living Center environment. Duties include, but are not limited to: - Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for Veterans receiving rehabilitation and extended care services. - Coordinate care throughout the continuum, supporting safe transitions, patient and family education, and Veteran self-management following discharge. - Administer medications and perform nursing procedures in accordance with established clinical policies and treatment plans. - Conduct skin assessments and monitor skin integrity to identify concerns and support timely interventions. - Assess and document pain and the effectiveness of pain-management interventions to promote Veteran comfort and well-being. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement, and evaluate coordinated plans of care that reflect each Veteran's needs and preferences. - Coordinate completion of clinical orders for assigned Veterans and work collaboratively with Licensed Practical Nurse team members to support continuity of care. - Respond to medical emergencies as part of the code team and participate in unit-level quality improvement activities designed to strengthen care and outcomes. The selectee must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.
