Overview
RTW Investments, LP, is seeking individuals interested in joining our team in the role of Research Specialist.
Our Asset Selection team works with and supports both public and private companies as well as academics and entrepreneurs. We are also actively engaged in forming new companies through our own in-house discovery efforts.
In the role of Research Specialist, you will enhance the work of the Asset Selection team. This is not an investment analyst position; however, skills and training received in this role will be highly relevant to investment research in biotech.
RTW Research Specialists are part of our growing Research-Data Management Department.
Research Specialists will have an opportunity to build expertise in specific disease areas and work closely with our Asset Selection Research Analysts. We are looking for someone who will think broadly and creatively about how to leverage data, technology, and process innovation to maximize our team’s impact. Critical thinking, problem solving, and a willingness to experiment with new tools and approaches are key to success in this role.
Language Requirement: We are hiring multiple Research Specialists. Professional fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) is required for one position.
Key Responsibilities
Gather, organize, and strategically leverage scientific data to drive better decision-making
Collect and curate information and data from diverse sources - including literature, scientific and medical meetings, and thought leader interviews
Design and implement new workflows, databases, and data-driven tools to make our research faster, smarter, and more effective
The listed responsibilities are not comprehensive, and additional tasks may be assigned as required
Qualifications and Skills
Scientifically minded with at least a BS of high academic standing in the life sciences, preference will be given to candidates with 3+ years of industry experience
Strong ability to capture, distill, and organize complex scientific information from literature, conferences, and expert interviews.
Background in (or a willingness to learn and apply) coding or data manipulation skills (e.g. Python, SQL, R, Microsoft Power Automate) to streamline processes and manage data
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and an effective communicator in both written and visual formats (slides, spreadsheets, summaries).
Has the ability to attend in-person, domestic and international medical and scientific conferences
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams, support senior colleagues, and mentor junior team members.
Ability to adapt quickly to new data sources, technologies, and evolving priorities.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to deliver within timelines while maintaining clarity and transparency.
Previous experience as an industry-trained scientist, medical librarian or medical science liaison, investor relations, or expert network professional considered a plus
Managerial experience desirable but not required
Is expected to attend weekend conferences as needed and on an occasional basis
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) required for one of multiple hires
Must be able to work from our New York City office 4-5 days per week

The base salary for this New York-based position ranges from $125,000 to $135,000, depending on experience, skills, and responsibilities. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and the level at which the role is hired. In addition to the base salary, the role includes a discretionary incentive compensation program, and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and life insurance, retirement plans, tax-free savings options, and access to additional healthcare programs.
