Break Housing Logistics Responsibilities:

During the breaks and academic year leading up to breaks, the grad assistant will work 120 hours (spread out over 12 months) on Housing Break Logistics.

The KE Apartments are open year-round. During Christmas and Spring Break, the dorms are closed and students are given the choice to stay in KE during the 1 to 2 week breaks. During the summer, the apartments are open to current Calvin students, graduating seniors, as well as outside groups, scholars, and families who are looking for a convenient place to stay in Grand Rapids.

The Break Housing Grad Intern is in charge of KE housing operations during these breaks:

Create, advertise, and publicize break housing information and application processes for Summer, Christmas, and Spring break

Collaborate with KE Area Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise Summer, Christmas, and Spring break RAs

Communicate with students regarding break housing details and monitor placements of students in host apartments

Oversee check-out procedures during breaks

Coordinate with Campus Safety (card access & safety), Financial Services (billing), and Facilities (apartment readiness for early fall semester arrivals)

Assist Housing Staff to coordinate housing for summer apartment residents and early arrival fall residents, turnover apartments, process checkout procedures and communicate details to KE students during breaks prior to semester starts

Compensation:

The position is a 12-month, part-time, live-in position beginning December 1st. A university-owned apartment near the edge of campus (town-house-style) will be provided free of charge, year-round. This is a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment, with no roommate. If the candidate desires to live with roommates, an arrangement could possibly be negotiated. If candidate has a spouse or children, they are welcome to live in the apartment as well. Calvin also covers costs for all utilities (internet is provided, cable is not). A campus meal plan is also provided.

Expected Tenure:

A total term of employment of one to three years (ANNUAL CONTRACTS) is the general expectation of the university for this position. During that period, one-year renewals beyond each contract will be based on the university’s needs and on satisfactory performance.
