Job Title: Residential Family Therapist & Care Coordinator
Department: Clinical Services
Reports To: Clinical Director
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Primary Work Location: Seamark Ranch, Green Cove Springs, Florida
Primary Schedule: Afternoon and evening hours based on clinical, family, and residential program needs; periodic mornings as needed
POSITION SUMMARY
The Residential Family Therapist & Care Coordinator serves as the primary clinical point person for an assigned caseload of residential children and their families, coordinating the therapeutic components of each family’s journey from admission through transition, reunification, discharge, and aftercare. The position provides individual and family therapy, clinical assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic care coordination, clinical crisis assessment when indicated, and interdisciplinary consultation within Seamark Ranch’s residential program.
Consistent with Seamark’s family-centered philosophy, the therapist understands that meaningful, sustainable change involves not only the child but the family system surrounding the child, and works collaboratively with house parents, Programs Assistants, Education, Equine, Agriculture, Workforce Development, medical and psychiatric providers, and Intake and Family Care. The position includes regular afternoon and evening availability so clinical services, family engagement, and treatment integration can occur during meaningful portions of children’s daily lives.
SUPERVISION AND PROGRAM COORDINATION
The Clinical Director serves as this position’s supervisor and leads its formal performance evaluation, with oversight of clinical competency, treatment planning, documentation, risk assessment, and required supervision for staff practicing under Florida registered-intern status.
The Director of Programs sets residential scheduling, program-integration, and interdisciplinary expectations that this position is responsible for meeting, and provides input to the Clinical Director regarding the therapist’s effectiveness within the residential environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care and Treatment.
Serve as primary therapist for an assigned caseload of residential children, providing individual psychotherapy consistent with each child’s Individualized Care Plan while maintaining therapeutic rapport and appropriate professional boundaries.
Conduct and update clinical assessments of emotional, behavioral, relational, developmental, and family needs, developing individualized goals and interventions with the child, family, Clinical Director, and interdisciplinary team.
Develop and maintain the clinical portions of each child’s Individualized Care Plan, aligning treatment goals with the Restoration Journey and preparing clinical updates for Restoration Meetings and treatment reviews.
Coordinate with psychiatric and medical providers regarding medication response, treatment progress, and continuity of care.
Family Therapy and Restoration.
Provide family therapy at least twice monthly, developing an in-depth understanding of each family’s history, relational patterns, strengths, and barriers to progress.
Establish individualized family-treatment goals promoting restoration, healthy communication, and reunification when appropriate, and facilitate therapeutic parent-child conversations and parent coaching.
Prepare children and families progressively for increased contact, home visits, and reunification, and communicate significant family-engagement concerns to the Clinical Director.
Admission, Transition, and Aftercare.
Review pre-admission clinical records and participate in admission consultation to identify clinical concerns, safety considerations, and treatment priorities informing placement.
Assess family readiness for reunification and develop therapeutic transition and aftercare recommendations, including referrals to community therapists or other services as appropriate.
Support continuity of care so discharge represents a transition in the Restoration Journey rather than an end to treatment.
Residential Integration and Interdisciplinary Collaboration.
Provide meaningful clinical presence during afternoon and evening hours, consulting with house parents and Programs Assistants regarding children’s emotional, relational, and trauma-related needs from a trauma-informed, family-systems perspective.
Participate in Restoration Meetings, treatment-team meetings, and case reviews, collaborating with Programs leadership, Education, Equine, Agriculture, Workforce Development, Intake and Family Care, and medical and psychiatric providers.
This clinical presence supports and strengthens the residential environment; it does not replace house parents’ primary caregiving responsibility or Programs Assistants’ routine behavioral support.
Crisis Assessment, Safety, and On-Call.
This position participates in Seamark’s clinical response to mental-health and safety concerns, distinct from routine residential behavioral issues.
Respond to mental-health and safety concerns requiring clinical assessment, including suicide, self-harm, and other clinical risk assessments within the therapist’s training and scope of practice, and develop or update safety plans when indicated.
Participate in a rotating clinical on-call schedule to provide consultation when a child presents with a mental-health or safety concern; routine behavioral issues (refusal, peer conflict, testing limits) are addressed through the established residential response structure rather than clinical on-call.
Detailed on-call hours, escalation procedures, and documentation requirements are defined in Seamark’s Clinical Crisis Response Protocol.
Documentation, Compliance, and Professional Development.
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in TherapyNotes consistent with Seamark policy and professional standards, and maintain confidentiality consistent with HIPAA, Florida law, and mandatory-reporting requirements.
Participate in regular clinical supervision as required by Seamark and applicable Florida registration or licensure requirements, and maintain required continuing education, registration, licensure, and professional credentials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or another qualifying mental-health discipline.
Florida licensure as an LMHC, LCSW, or LMFT, or active Florida registration as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI), Registered Clinical Social Work Intern (RCSWI), or Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (RMFTI), with appropriate qualified supervision.
Experience providing counseling services to children and/or adolescents and their families, with a strong understanding of child and adolescent development and family systems.
Ability to conduct clinical assessment, develop treatment plans, provide psychotherapy, and maintain professional clinical documentation within scope of practice.
Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary residential environment while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Ability and willingness to work regular afternoon and evening hours and participate in the clinical on-call rotation.
Ability to meet Seamark Ranch employment, background-screening, training, and regulatory requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working within residential treatment, child welfare, foster care, adoption, or community mental health settings.
Experience providing family therapy and systemic interventions with children and families affected by trauma, attachment disruption, or family instability.
Training in trauma-focused, attachment-based, or other evidence-informed therapeutic approaches, and experience conducting suicide or self-harm risk assessments.
