Description

Front of House Shift Leader – Mustard Seed Missoula

$23/hour + Tip Pool | Tips Average Approximately $6/hour | About 35 Hours/Week

Ready to take the next step in restaurants?

If you know your way around a busy full-service restaurant, enjoy being the person your coworkers can count on, and have thought about moving into management, this could be a great next step.

Mustard Seed in Missoula is looking for an experienced Full-Service Front of House Shift Leader to help keep our front-of-house team running smoothly.

Our Shift Leaders work alongside the crew, help coordinate the floor, solve problems as they come up, support great guest service, and help set the tone for the shift.

We’re looking for someone who leads by example rather than from the sidelines.

Pay & Schedule

  • $23 per hour
  • Plus participation in our tip pool, currently averaging approximately $6.00 per hour
  • Approximately 35 hours per week

That means typical current earnings are approximately $29/hour between hourly wages and tip-pool earnings.

What You'll Do

As a Shift Leader, you should be comfortable jumping into any front-of-house position and helping the team wherever you’re needed.

You’ll:

  • Help lead and coordinate the front-of-house team during your shift
  • Carry out the direction of the General Manager and assist them in running the restaurant
  • Work alongside servers, hosts, bussers, food runners/expo and other FOH team members
  • Help oversee our takeout desk and make sure orders are accurate, organized and ready for our guests
  • Help organize floor coverage, sections, breaks and side work
  • Keep service moving during busy periods
  • Communicate closely with the kitchen and other members of the leadership team
  • Help team members prioritize when things get busy
  • Provide in-the-moment direction, coaching and support
  • Step in when a coworker needs help—we believe great leaders aren't afraid to get their hands dirty
  • Help resolve routine guest concerns and know when to involve a manager
  • Help maintain our standards for service, cleanliness and hospitality
  • Assist with opening and closing responsibilities
  • Help ensure cash-handling and closing procedures are followed correctly
  • Identify problems during the shift and communicate them to management
  • Help create a positive, respectful and team-oriented workplace

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have 2+ years of experience working in a full-service restaurant (Prior Shift Lead/Front of House Management preferred)
  • Understand how all the pieces of a busy front-of-house operation work together
  • Are comfortable working in and supporting multiple FOH positions
  • Stay calm and organized when the restaurant gets busy
  • Naturally notice when someone needs help and jump in
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with both coworkers and guests
  • Are dependable and willing to take ownership of the shift
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Can give coworkers direction while treating everyone with kindness and respect
  • Are interested in developing your leadership skills and moving into restaurant management

Previous experience as a trainer, lead server, shift lead or similar role is helpful, but we care more about your restaurant knowledge, attitude and ability to lead a team.

Why Mustard Seed?

Restaurants work best when people actually work together .

We want our Shift Leaders to be the kind of people who can recognize that the host stand is getting buried, a server just got triple-seated and takeout suddenly has six orders due at once—and help the team figure it out.

You'll have the opportunity to build real leadership experience while continuing to work in the restaurant and stay connected to the guests and team.

For someone interested in restaurant management, this role is an opportunity to learn how to lead a shift, develop people, solve problems and understand the bigger picture of restaurant operations.

Benefits

Eligible employees have access to benefits including:

  • Paid Time Off
  • Health insurance benefits
  • 401(k) with company match

Join Our Team

If you're an experienced full-service restaurant professional who's ready for more responsibility—but still wants to be part of the action—we'd love to meet you.

Apply today and tell us a little about your restaurant experience and what you're looking for in your next role.

Mustard Seed was started in 1978 in Missoula, Montana by a group of friends and family, including sisters Betty and Nancy Tokumoto and Betty’s husband, David Hall. Many of our signature recipes were created or inspired by the Tokumoto sisters who grew up in Okinawa, Bangkok, and Hawaii, and then attended college in Oregon. Their experience with cuisine in these distinct regions gave them the unique gift for blending the vibrant flavors of the far east with the comforting tastes of the Pacific Northwest.

Mustard Seed takes pride in our in-house sauces, our commitment to use fresh ingredients, and our dedication to exceptional service - all of which are made possible by the hard work and passion of our amazing team.
