Blue Ridge Associates is a leading professional services firm specializing in third-party administration of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), cash balance, pension, and other qualified retirement plans.

Our client base spans the country, while our teams are located internationally across seven offices in the United States and two offices abroad, including Charlottesville, VA; Columbia, MD; Columbus, OH; Monrovia, CA; Riverside, CA; Maple Grove, MN; and Baxter, MN, as well as remote locations.

That’s Where You Come in as a Retirement Plan Consultant

As a Retirement Plan Consultant, you’ll be a key contact for clients navigating the complex world of 401(k) and other qualified retirement plans. You will manage a full portfolio of client relationships, serve as a trusted advisor, and ensure compliance, accuracy, and exceptional service every step of the way.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring timely review and delivery of annual compliance testing, contribution calculations, and governmental forms and filings.
  • Maintaining accuracy of data in client relationship management system for use in managing plan load and reporting.
  • Communicating with customers and assists with benefit distributions.
  • Demonstrating an excellent level of proactive client focus and teamwork with clients, advisors, CPAs, and internal partners.
  • Protecting, securing, and handling of all confidential data transmitted to/from the organization.
  • Developing, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with clients, advisors & CPAs.
  • Interfacing with recordkeeping providers to ensure a positive client experience.
  • Developing technical skills to become a subject matter expert in regulatory and industry practices.
  • Communicating significant issues and exceptions to an appropriate higher level of authority within your assigned team promptly.
  • Remaining self-motivated to track upcoming deadlines and follow up with clients consistently for data or additional information.
  • Follows Blue Ridge Associates company policy and procedures to ensure a uniform product and process for all clients.
  • Assisting internal departments, as needed, with plan administration.
  • Understanding and discussing:
  • ADP/ACP testing
  • Cross-testing and other profit-sharing allocation methods
  • Cash balance and 401(k) plan design coordination

Perform other tasks as assigned

What We’re Looking for in a Retirement Plan Consultant

We’re seeking professionals who bring technical knowledge, strong client service skills, and a commitment to continuous learning. You take pride in the details because you know your work has a lasting impact on people’s financial well-being.

Retirement Plan Consultant Requirements

Required experience

  • 2-6 years of related experience in plan administration and plan review.
  • 2 years of hands-on plan administration experience (e.g., completing nondiscrimination, top-heavy, annual contribution limits, etc.)
  • Experience with retirement plan administration and compliance software (e.g., FT William, Datair, Relius, etc.)
  • Experience working with 401(k) and 403(b) Plans, Profit Sharing, Cash Balance and Defined Benefit Plans, PEPs, MEPs and/or Groups of Plans.
  • Proven ability to work directly with clients, advisors, and recordkeepers in a consultative capacity.
  • Experience reading and interpreting retirement plan documents with a basic understanding of related rules and regulations.
  • Experience interpreting plan documents and applying ERISA, IRS, and DOL guidance.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and systems.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Word.

Preferred experience

  • Experience working in defined contribution administration and/or Third-Party Administration (TPA) consulting
  • Experience working with various recordkeeping platforms

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (ideally in Accounting, Finance, Math, Economics, or Statistics).
  • ASPPA (e.g., QKA, QKS, etc.), NIPA (e.g., APA, AKS, etc.), ERPA, or similar retirement plan credentials preferred (or willingness to obtain).

  • Ability to simplify complex retirement plan concepts for clients and advisors.
  • Effective collaboration, problem solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills as well as attention to details.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Professional, positive, and client-focused demeanor.

Compensation

Blue Ridge is committed to equal pay and pay transparency. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000 annually. This range represents the anticipated pay for this role across multiple U.S. labor markets and is intended as a general guideline.
