Rotary Kiln Operator (Mech.)

Job Summary:

The Rotary Kiln Operator (Mechanical) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, inspection, and basic maintenance of rotary kilns used in the production of refractory materials. The role involves monitoring kiln performance, ensuring adherence to process parameters, and conducting mechanical upkeep to ensure minimal downtime and optimal output quality.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Kiln Operation & Monitoring:

• •Operate and monitor rotary kiln equipment during production.
• •Maintain proper temperature, feed rate, and rotation speed as per process requirements.
• •Record and analyze operational data (e.g., temperatures, pressures, material flows).
• •Ensure kiln startup and shutdown procedures are followed correctly.

2. Mechanical Maintenance:

• •Conduct routine mechanical checks and preventive maintenance on rotary kilns and auxiliary equipment (e.g., burners, gears, rollers, seals, drive systems).
• •Assist in mechanical troubleshooting and repair work related to rotary kilns.
• •Lubricate moving parts and inspect for wear and tear regularly.
• •Coordinate with maintenance team for scheduled shutdown maintenance.

3. Quality & Safety:

• •Ensure the kiln operates within defined quality parameters to produce high-grade refractory materials.
• •Follow safety protocols and participate in regular safety drills and training.
• •Report mechanical faults, unsafe conditions, and near-miss incidents immediately.

4. Coordination & Documentation:

• •Work closely with process engineers, quality control, and shift supervisors.
• •Maintain accurate logs of kiln operations, maintenance activities, and production output.
• •Support continuous improvement initiatives and equipment upgrade projects.

Qualifications:

Education: ITI/Diploma/ B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical trade.

Experience: 2–5 years of experience in rotary kiln operation in a refractory, cement, lime, or similar industry.

Technical Skills:

• •Knowledge of rotary kiln components and mechanical systems.
• •Familiarity with PID controllers and process instrumentation is a plus.
• •Ability to read mechanical drawings and manuals.

Soft Skills:

• •Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• •Team player with good communication skills.
• •Willing to work in shifts and in hot/dusty environments.

Working Conditions:

• •Exposure to high temperatures, dust, and noise.
• •Shift-based work (day/night/weekend rotation).
• •Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is mandatory.
