Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
As a Safety Threat Investigator on the Safety Investigations team, you will primarily support Roblox’s Core Investigations capability: the operational backbone for repeatable, high-sensitivity matters that require speed, consistency, evidence discipline, and strong documentation. You will independently manage small- to medium-scope investigations from intake through resolution, with little day-to-day oversight, and produce clear, defensible work product that supports high-confidence safety decisions.
You will recognize when a matter needs deeper attribution, network-centric analysis, cross-platform research, proactive threat hunting, or externally meaningful work product, and you will escalate to a senior investigator or to Specialized Investigations. At the CL7 level, you will own your assigned investigations end to end, apply the team’s methods with consistency, and bring back practical observations that make the next case faster and clearer. You will check in with your manager or a senior investigator when scope, risk, or the right investigative lane is unclear.
Please note: This role may require reviewing graphic, controversial, and offensive content in accordance with Roblox’s handling policies. It may also require participation in an on-call rotation during weekends and holidays.
You Will
Independently manage repeatable, high-sensitivity investigations of small to medium scope, including matters involving child exploitation, violent extremism, organized fraud, compromised accounts, coordinated abuse, and other high-risk behavior.
Apply structured investigative methods, evidence checklists, common templates, and approved data pulls to produce timely and consistent case outcomes.
Gather, preserve, analyze, and corroborate evidence while maintaining accurate provenance, confidentiality, and auditability.
Turn an assigned investigative question into a practical plan, including scope, evidence steps, milestones, and exit criteria, and seek review from a senior investigator when the matter is ambiguous or growing in complexity.
Conduct focused account, entity, and timeline linkage within a case, and identify when the case needs deeper attribution, network mapping, or cross-platform investigation.
Escalate to Specialized Investigations, or to a senior investigator, when a case develops meaningful attribution complexity, broader network risk, external actionability, or a need for deeper synthesis.
Prepare clear case summaries and standardized downstream work product for partners such as Legal, Safety Intelligence, Trust & Safety Operations, Law Enforcement Operations, or NCMEC, as appropriate.
Notice recurring patterns, operational pain points, and escalation trends in your caseload, and share them so they can inform Policy, Product, Engineering, Detection, Legal, and Safety Operations.
Contribute to investigation playbooks, templates, intake guidance, and quality checks by testing them in casework and proposing specific improvements.
Keep teammates informed with clear, timely updates, raise blockers early, and stay aligned with partners on the cases you own.
Share practical techniques with peers, and incorporate feedback to strengthen your own investigative rigor and documentation.
Maintain strong case hygiene, document decisions and approvals, and close investigations with clear outcomes, documented residual risk, and follow-up actions.
You Have
3+ years conducting investigations involving safety, abuse, fraud, security, threat, or other high-risk matters.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage small- to medium-scope investigations end to end, including intake, evidence development, analysis, findings, and follow-through, with little day-to-day oversight.
Working experience using SQL, spreadsheets, or similar tools, and open-source intelligence, in an investigative context.
Sound investigative judgment and the ability to distinguish facts, inferences, allegations, unknowns, assumptions, and analytical conclusions.
Familiarity with account or entity linkage, timelines, or open-source research, and the judgment to recognize when a case needs deeper attribution or specialist support.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce concise, defensible case summaries for investigators and partner teams.
Ability to turn a defined investigative question into a practical plan, adjust as new evidence appears, and deliver medium-scope work on time.
A habit of connecting individual cases to policy, product, detection, and user-safety questions, and of sharing those observations with the team.
Ability to collaborate with peers and partners, build working relationships beyond your immediate team, and take feedback from senior investigators.
Sound judgment, discretion, curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to evidence-based, fair, and proportionate investigations.
Success in This Role
Within your first year, you will be expected to independently manage Core Investigations matters of small to medium scope from intake to completion, deliver consistent and defensible work product, escalate cases that need deeper or specialized handling, and contribute practical observations that help the team investigate more consistently.
You will be successful when you:
Deliver rigorous, timely, and consistent outcomes on the investigations you own.
Apply sound judgment in triage, evidence development, escalation, and case closure, and ask for review when scope or risk is unclear.
Use the team’s methods, templates, and quality standards consistently, and suggest specific improvements based on your casework.
Surface recurring patterns from your investigations so partners can act on them.
Communicate clearly with teammates and partner teams, and help peers by sharing what you learn in casework.
Our Team Principles
We follow the full story, investigate horizontally, make safety impact real, pursue accountability end-to-end, lead with mission and curiosity, collaborate with candor and respect, build leverage rather than relying on heroics, and continuously raise the bar.
