Amazon is building an SAP S/4HANA platform that unifies our robotics business into a single digital thread, and Production Planning sits at the heart of how we plan, source, and build — at the speed our robotics roadmap demands. This role exists to make design-to-build cycles dramatically faster, layering automation and AI on top of a clean SAP PP core. As the SAP Production Planning Solution Architect, you will own the solution architecture for the PP domain end to end — translating how the business forecasts, plans materials, and executes manufacturing into a coherent, standard-first design that scales. A central focus of this role is the configuration of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and the integration of SAP PP with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), so that engineering, planning, and manufacturing execution flow as one connected thread. You will build the Business Process Designs (BPDs) hand in hand with business, operations, and the integrated technical team, work backwards from plan-to-produce and manufacturing reporting requirements, and ensure the architecture is designed around how the business actually operates while connecting cleanly to the broader supply chain, procurement, quality, and finance. Beyond stabilizing the core, you will drive a program of innovation on top of the SAP PP base to compress design-to-build cycles. These automation and AI layers — SAP Business AI and Joule, generative and agentic AI on SAP BTP (AI Core / AI Foundation), RAP-based and low-code accelerators, and CPI/Integration Suite orchestration — sit cleanly alongside a clean-core S/4HANA foundation.
- Key job responsibilities
- - Own the end-to-end solution architecture for the SAP Production Planning (PP) domain on S/4HANA, translating plan-to-produce business requirements into a coherent, scalable, standard-first design.
- - Own the MRP architecture — configure classic MRP and MRP Live, planning strategies, lot-sizing procedures, MRP areas, and consumption-/forecast-based planning — to balance service levels, inventory, and manufacturing capacity.
- - Own the integration between PLM and SAP PP, designing how engineering BOMs, material masters, Engineering Change Management (ECM), and document links flow into production master data and stay synchronized with product revisions.
- - Own the integration between SAP PP and the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), designing production order dispatch, confirmations, component consumption, goods movements, and real-time production feedback, along with genealogy, serialization, and back-flushing requirements.
- - Build the Business Process Designs (BPDs) for the PP domain, working hand in hand with business stakeholders, operations, and the integrated technical team to align on standard process adoption, exceptions, and trade-offs.
- - Work backwards from how the business plans and builds — demand management, S&OP, BOMs, routings, work centers, production versions, capacity planning, and production/process orders — to ensure the PP architecture meets operational needs across discrete, repetitive, and process manufacturing.
- - Design for manufacturing reporting needs — production cost, variance, yield, and capacity analytics — ensuring the PP design captures the right data to meet management and statutory reporting requirements.
- - Own the integration requirements connecting PP to adjacent domains — Materials Management (MM), Quality Management (QM), Warehouse Management (WM/EWM), and Finance (FICO) — ensuring plan-to-produce connects cleanly to procurement, quality, fulfillment, and product costing.
- - Lead PP standard-versus-custom decisions, favoring configuration and clean-core extensions over core modifications, and set the design patterns and integration standards the delivery team builds against.
- - Drive innovation on top of the SAP PP base — lead automation and AI layers built on SAP Business AI / Joule, generative and agentic AI on SAP BTP, and RAP-based or low-code accelerators — to compress design-to-build cycles, accelerate configuration and testing, and augment planners, while keeping the core clean and upgrade-safe.
- - Build master data standards, planning governance, controls, and audit and compliance requirements into the PP design from the start, rather than retrofitting them.
- - Serve as the senior technical authority for the PP domain through design and configuration reviews, prototypes, and hands-on resolution of the hardest PP configuration and integration problems, mentoring functional analysts.
Basic qualifications
- - 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
- - 10+ years of experience working in ERP implementation
- - 5+ years of experience leading the Production Planning domain in an ERP implementation
- - Experience across discrete and repetitive manufacturing environments
- - Experience configuring SAP Production Planning (PP) on S/4HANA in at least one full-lifecycle implementation
Preferred qualifications
- - Experience integrating SAP PP with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), including engineering BOMs, Engineering Change Management (ECM), and master-data replication
- - Experience integrating SAP PP with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for production order execution, confirmations, and production data exchange
- - Experience building Business Process Designs (BPDs) in partnership with business, operations, and integrated technical teams
- - Experience architecting plan-to-produce end to end and integrating PP with MM, QM, WM/EWM, and Finance (FICO) for product costing
- - Experience leading standard-versus-custom decisions and evaluating design trade-offs on controls, auditability, and upgrade-safety
- - Experience with SAP clean-core design concepts, including design and build using non-SAP technologies in domains such as Generative / Agentic AI and data & analytics
- - Experience driving innovation on top of core SAP PP — building automation and AI layers with SAP Business AI / Joule, generative and agentic AI on SAP BTP (AI Core / AI Foundation), and RAP-based or low-code accelerators — to shorten design-to-build cycles
