This observation experience will provide physical therapy students with an introduction to pediatric physical therapy practice within a specialized school serving children and young adults with brain-based disabilities and complex medical needs. Students will observe licensed physical therapists as they support mobility, positioning, postural control, transfers, adaptive equipment use, therapeutic exercise, and participation in educational routines.

  • The primary objectives are to increase students’ understanding of the physical therapist’s role within an interdisciplinary school-based team; demonstrate how examination findings and functional goals guide intervention; introduce students to adaptive seating, standing, gait, and mobility equipment; and promote awareness of safety, communication and family-centered care
  • This is an observation-only experience, and students will not provide hands-on treatment, independently assist with transfers, or participate in clinical decision-making.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or status as a Vietnam or disabled veteran. YAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
