Sony Interactive Entertainment has a great opportunity in the Quality Engineering department! We are seeking a self-motivated engineer with strong Python and test automation skills and a focus on quality, consistency, and thoughtful testing practices.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test Contractor, you’ll work hands-on with our peripherals and own automated test coverage for specific features across multiple platforms, alongside senior engineers.

Responsibilities

In this role, you'll work where firmware, hardware, and platform software meet, building the tests that check them and keeping that automation healthy.

Write Python automation suites for firmware and platform features

Perform integration testing on PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® Portal, and Windows

Improve the shared automation frameworks and test infrastructure

Troubleshoot test failures, using execution data to find flaky or slow tests

Collaborate with QA, Development, and Product teams to align on test coverage

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who’s as comfortable writing test code as working out why it failed.

Strong Python skills, including writing automated tests in pytest and Appium with minimal supervision

Experience with Git for version control

Experience configuring Jenkins CI/CD jobs and troubleshooting pipeline failures

Experience using test case management tools like qMetry or TestRail

Effective communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional team

Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

If you bring any of these, we’d love to hear about them!

Understanding of embedded firmware testing, including basic electrical concepts like current draw, voltage levels, and battery diagnostics

Experience testing or interacting with Windows-based drivers

Familiarity with PlayStation® SDK development

Experience programming in C or C++ (modern C++ preferred, e.g., C++17)

Please note that the individual base pay range may vary based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below, this is an hourly rate.

$52 — $78 USD
