Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Account Executive to own the Energy and Local Council portfolio within our New Zealand Public Sector team, driving cloud adoption, digital and Agentic AI transformation across two sectors that are foundational to how New Zealand lives and works.
Energy is the backbone of New Zealand's critical infrastructure, and local councils are at the heart of community wellbeing — shaping the services and systems communities rely on every day. Your objective is to build strong, trusted relationships across both sectors and to help their leaders realise their ambition to grow, modernise and better serve New Zealanders.
You will develop deep relationships with energy and local government organisations, understand their operating environments and transformation goals, and work backwards from their needs to bring the best of AWS to the mission. You will operate with a long-term view — building and qualifying a pipeline and owning the customer's experience of AWS end to end.
The successful candidate pairs a strong sales track record with genuine curiosity for the sectors they serve, and is equally comfortable with story building and data analysis for decision making.
- What Makes This Role Different
- - Support the backbone of New Zealand. You will work with the energy organisations that power the country and the councils that keep communities running — helping modernise infrastructure that New Zealanders depend on.
- - Build relationships measured in years. You will earn the trust of executives, digital and IT leaders across energy and local government through demonstrated credibility and a genuine commitment to their ambition to grow.
- - Enable community wellbeing. You will help local councils deliver better services and improve how communities operate — connecting technology directly to community outcomes.
- - Shape the future with AI and modernisation. You will help customers move legacy systems to the cloud and understand where AI and digital products create real value for the energy and local government sectors.
- Key job responsibilities
- - Develop and execute account strategies that align AWS solutions with customer transformation goals across the energy and local council portfolio, driving revenue growth and consistently achieving or exceeding targets.
- - Build enduring, trusted relationships with executives, digital and IT leaders, and partners across the energy and local government sectors.
- - Support customers' modernisation to the cloud, and position AWS services — including AI and digital products — to help them grow, improve resilience and better serve their communities.
- - Work with Solutions Architects, Partner teams and AWS service teams to design solutions, lead proof-of-concepts and pilots, and articulate value in terms of community outcomes, operational efficiency and cost optimisation.
- - Develop territory plans and accurate forecasts, track pipeline and revenue, and identify emerging opportunities across New Zealand's evolving energy and local government landscape.
- - Navigate New Zealand public sector procurement, and represent AWS at relevant industry events and forums.
- A day in the life
- Morning: Coffee with an energy provider's digital lead. You discuss modernising legacy systems to the cloud — improving the resilience of infrastructure that powers homes and businesses across the country.
Midday: Workshop with a regional council on a new digital services platform. Residents will be able to access council services online, faster and more easily than ever before.
Afternoon: Demo how AI and data can help an energy distributor forecast demand and manage the grid more efficiently — supporting the transition to renewable energy.
Evening: A council emails — their new platform is live. Communities now access the services they rely on more easily, and staff spend more time serving residents, less on admin.
Stronger infrastructure, thriving communities. That's why you do this.
