We are looking for a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to shape how our actuators, motors and gearboxes are built at scale. You will work with design engineering from early concept to make products easier to build, test and automate. You will own the manufacturing concept for new products: process flow, factory layout, line balancing and the automation strategy. Detailed line and equipment design is handled by a separate team. You will hand them a defined, validated concept.
- Key job responsibilities
- - Lead DFM, DFA and design-for-test reviews for actuators, motors and gearboxes, starting at the concept stage. Turn findings into specific design change requests and drive them to closure with design engineering.
- - Influence product architecture (part count, assembly direction, fastening and joining methods, tolerance allocation) so it can be built on automated lines at volume.
- - Develop the manufacturing concept for each new product: process flow diagrams, station definitions, cycle time estimates, line balancing and factory layouts.
- - Choose the automation level for each process step (manual, semi-automated or fully automated) and justify it with cost, quality, throughput and capital estimates.
- - Define the in-process and end-of-line test strategy alongside design and quality engineering.
- - Find and evaluate manufacturing equipment suppliers. Run concept studies, feasibility trials and proof-of-concept builds with them. Stay engaged through equipment buy-off and start of production.
- - Identify the highest-risk processes early and reduce that risk with experiments, prototype builds and supplier trials before detailed line design begins.
- - Write the requirements and concept package that the detailed line design team uses to build the line.
- - Develop new assembly and test methods where standard industry processes do not meet cost, quality or rate targets.
Basic qualifications
- - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
- - 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in automated production environments
- - Experience leading DFM/DFA work that changed product design toward a more scalable, manufacturable architecture
- - Experience working with manufacturing equipment suppliers from concept and quoting through equipment buy-off and start of production
- - Proficiency with 3D CAD for part, assembly and layout work
- - Hands-on experience with automation equipment such as robots, PLC-controlled stations, presses, dispensing systems or vision systems
Preferred qualifications
- - Experience creating process flow diagrams, factory layouts and line balancing for new products
- - Expertise in one or more analyses relevant to electromechanical products, such as thermal modeling, FEA or magnetics
- - Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)
- - Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes (stator winding, magnet insertion and bonding, rotor balancing, impregnation)
- - Experience designing or manufacturing one or more gearbox or actuator types: planetary, cycloidal, strain wave, or linear actuators (ball screw or roller screw)
- - Experience with precision assembly: bearing installation, press fits, adhesive dispensing and curing
- - Experience defining end-of-line test for motors or actuators (back-EMF, torque ripple, NVH)
- - Experience with PFMEA and process capability studies
- - Experience with robotic assembly and machine vision
- - Experience launching high-volume electromechanical products in automotive (EV traction motors), consumer electronics or similar industries
