Description

The Senior Closer, GSE is responsible for managing and executing complex multifamily mortgage loan transactions through all phases of the closing lifecycle, including onboarding, commitment issuance, rate lock, closing, funding, delivery, and purchase/settlement. This role serves as the primary coordinator for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant execution of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac transactions. The Senior Closer partners closely with Originations, Underwriting, Legal, Servicing, Asset Management, borrowers, counsel, title companies, and agency representatives to proactively identify risks, resolve issues, and drive successful transaction outcomes while maintaining exceptional client service and adherence to agency requirements.

Expected Outcomes

Deliver successful execution of complex Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac transactions through independent ownership of the closing process from onboarding through settlement/purchase. Anticipate and resolve transaction challenges, balance business objectives with agency requirements, and provide confident guidance to internal and external stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle. Establish credibility as a trusted resource for agency execution, complex transaction structures, and closing strategy while fostering strong relationships with borrowers, counsel, title companies, agency partners, and internal teams. Support the continued development of the closing platform through mentorship, knowledge sharing, operational improvements, and a commitment to excellence in client service, risk management, and transaction execution.

Requirements

  • Manage a portfolio of multifamily loan transactions from onboarding to through funding, agency delivery, and final settlement/purchase while ensuring compliance with internal policies and agency requirements.
  • Monitor and apply current Agency guidance, program requirements, forms and updates published through applicable Agency resources, including Fannie Mae Multifamily Selling and Servicing Guide and Freddie Mac Multifamily Seller/Servicer Guide, as relevant to the assigned transaction
  • Responsible for managing closing process for external and internal business partners throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Engage and manage external legal counsel while overseeing all transaction-related legal matters through closing and post-closing issue resolution.
  • Review each application, underwriting package, and credit approval to confirm transaction structure, identify issues requiring clarification and align closing requirements with applicable Agency execution
  • Manage feedback to agency commitments (if applicable), prepare lender commitments, coordinate rate lock activities, and submit agency-specific commitment documentation, including Fannie Mae C&D submissions.
  • Collaborate closely with Underwriting, Originations, Legal, Servicing, Asset Management, and agency partners to identify and resolve transaction issues while balancing business objectives and risk management considerations.
  • Ability to independently analyze complex information to perform real estate tax and insurance escrow analysis for closing.
  • Prepare, review, and/or accounting reconciliations, lender statements and related closing documentation.
  • Review Title Company Settlement Statements as well as Receipts and Disbursement ledger for accuracy and compliance, including verification of seller and lender credits, funds on deposit, and payoff (if applicable)
  • Coordinate loan fundings, wire approvals, closing packages, and disbursement activities to facilitate successful closing.
  • Verify all underwriting, legal and closing conditions are satisfied prior to rate lock as well as funding and disbursement.
  • Oversee delivery submissions to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, ensuring timely and accurate completion of agency delivery requirements for certification and/or purchase.
  • Demonstrate strong experience with non-standard transactions and all affordable products, including forward commitments, TELs and MTEBs
  • Maintain transaction records, closing schedules, pipeline reports, and agency delivery tracking tools to ensure accurate reporting and workflow management.
  • Identify operational efficiencies, support process improvement initiatives, and contribute to departmental projects, training, and best practice development.

Expected Experience, Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial real estate lending, agency multifamily loan closings, transaction management, underwriting, legal coordination, or a related discipline.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Fannie Mae DUS, Freddie Mac Program Plus, Freddie Mac TAH, TEL, M.TEB, and other agency multifamily lending products preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple transactions and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to independently assess transaction risks, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, attorneys, agency representatives, and all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and facilitate collaboration across multiple departments and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat; experience with Salesforce, agency delivery systems, and other transaction management platforms preferred.
  • High attention to detail, strong initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.

Pay Range

The total compensation pay range for new hires in Washington, D.C. is $130,000 - $155,000 annually. This range includes a base pay, plus an annual discretionary bonus. The amount of any actual bonus may vary and is subject to individual and company performance. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate of total compensation for the position at the time of posting. Actual total compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
