THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Senior Machinist, you will be working closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and commission the first prototype manufacturing cell and eventually the production versions of the system. You will collaborate with the Engineer and COO to determine machine specifications, support equipment procurement, provide design input on the overall cell architecture, and startup and commission the system.

You will also have the opportunity to travel to field locations where the prototype will be set up for initial demonstrations. Along with the Lead ME, you will operate the system, proving out this unique capability for the very first time.

This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located at our Atlanta facility.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Participate in machine selection, startup, and qualification for CNC’s and other equipment that are part of the modular micro-factory.

Support Engineering with tooling selection and fixture design for machining operations as well as other post-machining operations.

Write machining programs or collaborate with programmers to develop and optimize programs.

Learn the micro-factory robotics and automation system and become a qualified operator and trainer for the system.

Assist in writing operating documentation.

Support system build, integration, and acceptance testing at the site of the system integrator.

Run FAI’s on parts to validate the machining process.

Deploy to field locations to run prototype demonstrations.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalency certificate

10+ years of experience in CNC machining with both 3 and 5-axis milling experience.

Proficiency in shop math and blueprint reading

Experience with first article setups and measurement of parts using metrology tools like calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and pin gages.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Working knowledge of GD&T.

Experience designing tooling and fixtures in partnership with engineering.

Prototyping and new product development experience, working closely with engineering and programming.

Ability to perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Strong interpersonal skills including, but not limited to, contributing to a team-oriented environment, balancing team and individual responsibilities

Ability to write basic machining programs/knowledge of G-code.

Lathe experience, particularly with live tooling and Y-axis motion.

Machine startup and qualification experience.

Ability to manually deburr parts.

Working knowledge of additive manufacturing and/or machining of additively manufactured parts.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted

Must be able to stand and kneel unassisted

Must be able to do repetitive movement; bend or twist; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; exposure to sounds and distractive noise levels
