Senior Commercial Rack Refrigeration Service Technician

If You Know Supermarket Racks, We’re Willing to Pay for It.

Watson Refrigeration is looking for a highly skilled Commercial Rack Refrigeration Service Technician who can walk in the door and confidently diagnose, service, and repair supermarket rack systems.

This is not an entry-level position, and it is not intended for technicians who need to be trained on rack refrigeration. We need someone who understands how the entire system works, can independently troubleshoot difficult problems, and knows what to do when a supermarket’s refrigeration system goes down.

For the right technician, Watson Refrigeration is prepared to pay top-of-the-market hourly compensation—serious money for serious rack experience. Your exact rate will be based on your technical ability, experience, certifications, and the value you can bring to the team.

Candidates must currently live within approximately 40 miles of Raleigh, North Carolina, or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance.

What You’ll Do

Independently diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial refrigeration rack systems.

Respond to supermarket refrigeration emergencies and quickly identify the source of system failures.

Troubleshoot parallel and distributed racks, compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigerated cases, valves, piping, electrical components, controls, and refrigerant circuits.

Diagnose suction, discharge, oil-management, defrost, temperature-control, airflow, and system-capacity issues.

Work confidently with electronic controls, energy management systems, and rack controllers.

Locate refrigerant leaks, complete repairs, evacuate systems, and properly charge equipment.

Replace compressors, motors, contactors, relays, valves, piping, and other major system components.

Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.

Complete preventive maintenance and identify developing problems before they become costly emergencies.

Clearly explain findings and repair recommendations to customers, dispatch, and management.

Accurately complete service documentation and maintain assigned tools, vehicle, equipment, and inventory.

Follow EPA regulations and all company and customer safety procedures.

Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service needs.

Provide technical guidance to less-experienced technicians when needed.

What You Must Bring

Significant hands-on experience servicing supermarket or other large commercial refrigeration rack systems.

The ability to independently diagnose complex rack, electrical, control, mechanical, and refrigerant-circuit problems.

EPA Universal Certification.

Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration principles, components, and operating sequences.

Experience using refrigerant gauges, meters, recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, leak-detection equipment, and other standard diagnostic tools.

The ability to read electrical diagrams, equipment schematics, and technical documentation.

Strong brazing, piping, compressor replacement, and system start-up skills.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to meet company insurance requirements.

The judgment and confidence to make sound decisions independently in the field.

The flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation.

Experience We Especially Value

Supermarket refrigeration experience.

Parallel and distributed rack system experience.

Advanced rack-control and energy-management system knowledge.

Experience with CO₂, glycol, secondary refrigeration, or other advanced systems.

Compressor replacement, piping, brazing, evacuation, charging, and system commissioning experience.

Manufacturer or industry-specific refrigeration training.

State or local refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical licenses.

Experience leading complex repairs or mentoring other refrigeration technicians.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Ability to lift and move up to 50–75 pounds, with or without assistance.

Ability to climb ladders and work on rooftops or elevated surfaces.

Ability to kneel, squat, bend, crawl, push, pull, stand, and work in confined spaces.

Ability to work safely in hot, cold, wet, noisy, and slippery environments.

Ability to safely work around pressurized systems, refrigerants, electrical components, and mechanical equipment.

Ability to drive for extended periods and travel to customer locations throughout the assigned service area.

Let’s Talk Money

If you are the technician others call when a rack problem gets complicated, we want to talk to you. Watson Refrigeration is willing to pay top dollar hourly for the right person. Bring us proven supermarket rack experience and the ability to solve problems independently, and we’ll have a serious conversation about compensation.

Apply today to learn what your rack refrigeration experience could be worth at Watson Refrigeration.
