Senior Compliance Engineer
The Senior Compliance Engineer is responsible for managing product compliance activities for Allegion’s current and expanding portfolio of mechanical locks, exit devices, electromechanical locks, IoT devices, gateways, and security readers. As a Senior Compliance Engineer, you will serve as a critical compliance resource for electro-mechanical hardware and new wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, BLE), heavily supporting engineering teams (e.g., NPD, PLE, VA/VE) by ensuring products meet stringent safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.
Hybrid: At Allegion, we are driven by a bold vision: redefining safety while empowering our employees to thrive. When you join our team, you become part of a culture that values innovation, purpose, and excellence. This role offers the benefits of our dynamic hybrid work model combining in-person collaboration for meaningful moments with the flexibility of remote work. Since hybrid arrangements can vary based on the needs of the individual, team and business, your talent acquisition partner will provide specific hybrid details about this role.
We are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance and building meaningful connections, ensuring you have the tools, resources, and support needed to excel in any environment. Together, we’ll unlock your potential and create a lasting impact. While this is the current structure and we currently have no plans to change, we reserve the right to make changes to the hybrid schedule as needed at the Company’s discretion.
What You Will Do:
Lead Certification Activities: Drive compliance activities internally and with 3rd-party labs (e.g., UL, Intertek) for electromechanical locks, IoT devices, wireless technologies, and mechanical hardware. Support investigations of product failures to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Support Engineering (New Product Development, Product Life Cycle Engineering, VA/VE): Collaborate with various engineering teams to review engineering designs and change requests, identify regulatory needs, and provide accurate compliance cost and timeline estimates early in the design phase.
Hands-on Lab Execution: Support test technicians in the laboratory environment by assisting with the execution of test orders and corrective action activities, while managing resources and deadlines to meet customer expectations.
Ensure Lab Quality: Maintain strict adherence to laboratory quality management procedures and ensure the repeatability and reproducibility of test results. Develop new test methods and periodically review existing methods as needed.
Provide Regulatory & Standards Expertise: Serve as an internal subject matter expert on product standards, building codes, certification requirements, and regulatory compliance.
Regulatory & Industry Advocacy: Interface directly with certification bodies and regulatory agencies, fostering constructive relationships and advocating for Allegion's interests.
Competitive Analysis: Evaluate competitor products and customer claims regarding compliance and certifications to identify strengths and weaknesses.
Travel: Travel up to 15% (potentially including international travel) to provide onsite support for testing and certification activities.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; candidates must possess strong electromechanical aptitude and the ability to work across electrical and mechanical systems.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in standardized product testing and certification required.
- Demonstrated project management ability to coordinate multiple certification schedules, track milestones, manage outside test agencies, and balance competing priorities.
- Direct experience securing certifications with regulatory agencies (e.g., UL/ULC, Intertek, FCC/IC, and BHMA).
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with electromechanical systems and proficiency using electrical testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, PLC ladder logic).
- Experience working in a test lab environment with a strong understanding of general lab quality management practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of broader international standards such as IEC, IEEE, and EN.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 lab quality standards.
- Experience testing wireless/IoT technologies (e.g., BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter).
- Experience using 3D CAD and PLM tools (e.g., Creo Parametric, Windchill).
- Environmental and material testing experience (e.g., salt fog, thermal humidity, UV).
