We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

The Global Investigations Senior Corporate Counsel serves as a key member of Caterpillar’s Law, Security & Public Policy Division, providing legal advice and leadership in connection with complex, high-risk internal investigations, compliance matters, employee misconduct allegations, ethics concerns, and regulatory inquiries. This role partners closely with Caterpillar’s compliance, security, and business leaders to conduct prompt, objective, and defensible investigations while protecting Caterpillar’s legal interests.

You’ll operate at the intersection of law, business, ethics, and risk, helping senior leaders navigate sensitive matters where sound judgment, discretion, and investigative rigor are critical.

What You Will Do

  • Lead complex, high-risk internal investigations involving allegations of fraud, employee misconduct, ethics violations, regulatory non-compliance, and potential breaches of company policy, ensuring timely and objective resolution in coordination with attorneys and other subject-matter experts
  • Advise executive leadership on legal risk, translating complex investigative findings and legal issues into clear, practical recommendations for risk mitigation
  • Research and analyze complex legal issues and prepare clear, well-supported legal memoranda for executive leadership
  • Partner across the enterprise with compliance, security, business leaders, attorneys, and other subject-matter experts to effectively manage sensitive investigations
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide investigation programs, processes, and governance frameworks that promote consistency, confidentiality, attorney-client privilege, and investigative excellence
  • Apply informed legal judgment to high-impact matters, objectively evaluating facts, assumptions, potential outcomes, and legal and business risk
  • Manage multiple sensitive matters and shifting priorities while maintaining investigative quality, sound judgment, discretion, and appropriate stakeholder communication

What You Have

  • Risk Management: Extensive experience identifying, assessing, and addressing complex legal and organizational risk, with the ability to evaluate risk-management approaches and connect recommendations to business circumstances
  • Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to objectively analyze complex situations, distinguish facts and assumptions, evaluate alternatives, anticipate potential impact, and reach sound decisions based on informed judgment
  • Effective Communication: Proven ability to communicate sophisticated legal and investigative matters clearly and appropriately across audiences, including senior and executive-level stakeholders, using both influence and sound judgment
  • Problem Solving & Managing Multiple Priorities: Extensive experience analyzing and synthesizing complex information, resolving high-impact problems, and successfully navigating concurrent matters and changing priorities
  • Legal Analysis & Legal Function: Demonstrated ability to interpret legal and factual information, research complex legal issues, translate them into understandable concepts, and provide effective legal advice and assistance

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Significant experience leading complex corporate internal investigations involving allegations of fraud, employee misconduct, ethics violations, regulatory non-compliance, or company-policy violations
  • Experience providing legal advice on high-risk, sensitive investigations in a large corporate, multinational, government, or sophisticated law-firm environment
  • Demonstrated experience advising executive leadership on complex legal risks, investigation findings, and risk-mitigation strategies
  • Experience coordinating investigations involving multiple attorneys and subject-matter experts across functions or jurisdictions
  • Experience developing or contributing to investigation programs, processes, governance, protocols, or standards
  • Strong understanding of attorney-client privilege, confidentiality, investigative independence, and defensible investigation practices
  • Exceptional legal writing skills, including experience preparing concise, well-supported legal memoranda and executive-level recommendations
  • Experience operating effectively in matters involving significant ambiguity, competing stakeholder interests, reputational considerations, and legal risk

Degree and Experience Requirements:
