At Mudflap, we're modernizing the $1 trillion trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. By helping over 100,000 underserved small businesses save over $1 billion on fuel, Mudflap has quickly grown into a profitable fintech platform that processes billions in annual payment volume.

As our Senior Mobile Engineering Manager, you'll lead the evolution of mobile engineering at Mudflap. You'll oversee a growing mobile organization while helping define how mobile engineers partner with cross-functional product teams as we evolve toward a product-pod model. Beyond leading teams, you'll shape our long-term mobile architecture, establish engineering best practices, and build the technical foundation for a rapidly expanding suite of products serving the trucking industry.

This role requires exceptional engineering leadership, deep mobile expertise, and a strong point of view on modern software development—including how AI and agentic workflows can improve engineering productivity, quality, and developer experience.

Work Location: This role is based in Palo Alto and involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

Expectations (In this role, you will):

Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing mobile engineering organization of 10+ engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and customer obsession.

Drive the delivery of high-quality mobile experiences for consumer fintech and marketplace products, balancing near-term roadmap execution with long-term platform investments.

Execute Mudflap's mobile engineering strategy, shaping our architecture, platform direction, and technical standards as the business and product portfolio continue to grow.

Lead the evolution of our mobile organization as we expand toward a product-pod operating model while maintaining a strong centralized mobile engineering discipline.

Own our mobile architecture strategy, making thoughtful decisions across native, cross-platform, and hybrid approaches that balance developer productivity, platform consistency, performance, and customer experience.

Partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders across backend, infrastructure, and web to define technical vision, organizational structure, roadmap priorities, and strategic investments that enable a cohesive mobile platform.

Champion engineering excellence by driving best practices across code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and AI-assisted, agentic software development.

Experience (What we look for):

5+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing mobile engineering teams, ideally with 5–10 direct reports.

Strong mobile engineering background with deep experience across native and cross-platform frameworks, along with the ability to evaluate emerging mobile technologies and make the right call for the team's stage.

Experience defining and evolving mobile architecture at scale, including evaluating tradeoffs between native and cross-platform approaches.

Background building consumer mobile products, ideally in fintech, marketplaces, or other high-growth technology companies.

Proven success scaling engineering organizations through periods of technical and organizational change in both startup and larger company environments.

Strong technical leadership with a track record of delivering complex products while balancing technical excellence with pragmatic business outcomes.

Experience introducing modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, automation, and agentic workflows that improve developer productivity and software quality.

Excellent communication, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leaders.

Passion for coaching engineers, building high-performing teams, and advocating for mobile-specific considerations such as performance, offline capabilities, and network efficiency.

Perks and Benefits (What we offer):

Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup

Multiple health benefit options

Responsible Time Off

401(k) matching

Opportunities and support for major career growth

Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)
