Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician working in our research and development division. This technician will be testing proto units and boards with a chance to perform investigative troubleshooting to the component level. If this sounds like you, please apply.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Perform basic electronic hardware tests in accordance with defined engineering procedures or guidelines under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
  • 2. Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer or experienced technician. Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records.
  • 3. Assist engineers in the evaluation of new electronic components.
  • 4. Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
  • 5. Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
  • 6. Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of modest complexity under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
  • 7. Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • 8. Other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree
  • Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits
  • Familiarity with modern test equipment
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Troubleshooting to the component level
  • Familiarity with the Python language and scripting
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Working knowledge of IT equipment (Ethernet switches, TCP/IP address setup)
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems

Pay Range Information: ​

$40.50 - $59.50 per hour. Our salary ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
