Job Description

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world's leading providers of engineering, environmental and professional consulting services. With offices across Ireland, we are proud to deliver some of the most exciting and pivotal projects in the water, energy and transport sectors, as well as specialist environmental projects.

  • We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Environmental Scientist to join our growing Environment team. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong technical foundation, proven project delivery experience, and a passion for mentoring and collaboration.
  • You will work closely with your peers and Principal Environmental Consultants across the business to support the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects. You will play a key role in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental planning and consenting, and the coordination of multidisciplinary environmental teams. We are committed to supporting your professional growth and career development within AtkinsRéalis.

Your role

  • Lead and coordinate environmental inputs to infrastructure and development projects, including Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), EIA Screening Reports, environmental consenting activities and non-statutory environmental assessments.
  • Lead or support Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes for major infrastructure, energy, transport and water sector projects.
  • Manage smaller environmental projects independently, including client liaison, budget oversight, programme management and timely delivery.
  • Support Project Managers and Principal Environmental Consultants on larger multidisciplinary projects by coordinating environmental deliverables, timelines, resources and specialist inputs.
  • Apply your technical specialism (e.g. air quality, climate, noise and vibration, geology, hydrogeology or related discipline) to deliver high-quality assessments and advice.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, planning and environmental specialists to develop sustainable project solutions and support project consenting strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting their development and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
  • Engage with clients, regulators and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and successful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates and tender submissions.
  • Support the growth and development of AtkinsRéalis through innovation, technical excellence and client-focused delivery.

About you

  • A degree in a relevant environmental science or engineering discipline (e.g. environmental science, sustainability, air quality and climate, noise and vibration, geology, hydrogeology or related discipline). A Master's degree is desirable but not essential.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, or demonstrable progress towards chartership.
  • Relevant environmental consultancy experience, including Environmental Impact Assessment Reporting and non-statutory environmental reporting.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary environmental assessments for infrastructure, energy, transport, water or other major development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish planning, environmental and consenting legislation, guidance and best practice.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical report writing, including EIAR chapters, EIA Screening Reports and non-statutory environmental reports.
  • Experience in project and budget management, environmental survey coordination and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating specialist technical inputs.
  • Proficiency in GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS or similar) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and mentoring skills.
  • A full, clean driver's licence.
