General Notes

EVPP Business Affairs serves as the central business office for the Office of the Executive Vice President & Provost, providing coordinated financial, procurement, HR, payment, and administrative operations support across the EVPP portfolio. As part of a recently implemented centralized support model, the Business Affairs team functions as the operational partner for EVPP Units, much like a Dean’s Office serves its colleges, ensuring that faculty, staff, and administrators can focus on the academic and programmatic work that advances the university’s mission.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative finance team at a pivotal point in its development. The Senior Financial Analyst will play a central role in financial reporting, account reconciliation, and budget support across both administrative and academic functions, with real visibility into how financial data shapes decision-making at the leadership level.

Must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Purpose

The Senior Financial Analyst serves as a key financial resource for EVPP Business Affairs, responsible for producing accurate, timely financial reports in collaboration with the Financial Planning team, maintaining the integrity of accounting records through reconciliation and journal entry management, and supporting both the Financial Planning and Academic Budget teams with standard and ad-hoc analysis. This position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment in interpreting financial data, and the ability to manage multiple reporting cycles and stakeholder requests simultaneously.

This position reports to the Director, Business Operations, and works closely with the Financial Planning team, the Academic Budget team, departmental managers, and other university financial offices.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain accurate financial reports and statements, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting for EVPP units in partnership with the Financial Planning team
  • Monitor expenditures, account balances, and commitments, flagging variances and recommending adjustments as needed
  • Develop and maintain key metrics, dashboards, and recurring reports to support leadership decision-making
  • Produce ad-hoc financial, budget, and operational analysis as requested by leadership. Explaining financial details and information to stakeholders.

Accounting & Account Reconciliation

  • Process accounting entries and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy and integrity of internal financial records. Process adjustments to personnel costing allocations in Workday.
  • Update account structure changes to the team’s Chart of Accounts. Oversee the financial coding structure, ensuring consistency and compliance with university accounting standards
  • Review vouchers and fund groups for appropriateness of entries, researching and resolving discrepancies as they arise in coordination with the Financial Planning team
  • Interpret accounting data related to revenues, expenses, and budgets, and analyze trends to inform reporting

Financial Planning & Budget Support

  • Support the Financial Planning team in the development and management of administrative and business budgets for EVPP units, including preparation and review of departmental budget submissions
  • Assist with forecasting, trending, and what-if analysis to support budget planning cycles
  • Collaborate with Director, Financial Planning and EVPP departmental managers to align financial strategies with unit goals
  • Process, track, and organize account transfers and details tied to budget transfers.

Special Projects, Process Improvement and Cross-Functional Financial Support

  • Support special projects as assigned, including system implementations, reporting process redesigns, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Assist in reviewing current business processes and developing requirements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting turnaround
  • Provide backup support to the broader EVPP Business Affairs teams (e.g., accounting, payroll, procurement) during peak periods or staffing transitions
  • Communicate and grant appropriate access to financial data/systems to meet the needs of finance, HR, and other business staff
  • Serve as a point of contact for routine financial questions from EVPP units and departments

Other related duties and projects as assigned

  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting financial data, identifying trends, and producing actionable reports
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and competing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and independence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems; comfort learning new university systems and platforms

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
