Role Purpose

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter Financial Lines to help establish, develop and grow Hiscox S.A.'s Financial Lines proposition in Italy. The role will combine senior underwriting responsibility with market development, broker relationship management and hands-on support for the continued build-out of the Italian branch. Knowledge of Cyber risk underwriting is an advantage.

The successful candidate will underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of Financial Lines business, with a strong focus on Professional Indemnity and Directors & Officers Lines of Business and the ability to work across other relevant Financial Lines products in line with Hiscox appetite and authority. The role requires sound technical judgement, commercial drive and the credibility to build trusted, long-term relationships with brokers, clients and colleagues.

This is an opportunity for an experienced underwriter who wants to shape a growing proposition, influence market strategy and play a visible role in the development of Hiscox in Italy.

Key Responsibilities

• •Underwrite new and renewal Financial Lines business in accordance with agreed underwriting authorities, product appetite, pricing standards and governance requirements.
• •· Analyse and assess complex local and international risks, with particular emphasis on PI traditional and emerging and D&O
• •Negotiate coverage, pricing, terms and conditions with brokers and clients, maintaining underwriting discipline, integrity and profitability.
• •Build and manage a sustainable and profitable portfolio, monitoring performance, rate adequacy, exposure, retention, new business conversion and portfolio mix.
• •Develop strong, trusted relationships with key Italian intermediaries and clients, acting as a credible senior market representative for Hiscox.
• •Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities and renewal strategies, including regular broker/agent and client meetings across Italy.
• •Work with key distribution partners to assess market opportunities, develop growth plans and strengthen Hiscox's Financial Lines proposition and visibility.
• •Provide product and underwriting training to relevant distribution partners.
• •Contribute to product development, wording review, proposition design and go-to-market initiatives, ensuring solutions remain relevant to client needs and market dynamics.
• •Collaborate with Claims, Legal & Compliance, Operations, Finance, Marketing and other underwriting teams to deliver an effective end-to-end service.
• •Identify appropriate cross-selling opportunities with other Hiscox lines of business, while keeping customer needs and underwriting suitability at the centre of the decision.
• •Prepare and maintain accurate underwriting documentation, referrals, portfolio information and management reporting in line with internal standards.
• •Support the development of a growing local underwriting capability, including coaching less experienced colleagues and contributing to future team development as the business expands.
• •Work closely with European Financial Lines peers to share expertise, ensure alignment and make effective use of Hiscox group capabilities.
• •Represent Hiscox externally at meeting with intermediaries, client visits and relevant market events, with flexibility to travel within Italy and, when required, Europe.

Key Skills and Experience

• •Significant experience in the Italian Financial Lines insurance market, typically 7-10 years, gained with a recognised insurer or specialist underwriting business.
• •Strong technical underwriting expertise in PI and D&O; experience across additional Financial Lines classes, is an advantage.
• •Demonstrable track record of underwriting and developing profitable new and renewal business, including complex risks and negotiated placements.
• •Strong understanding of the Italian broker market, established broker relationships and the credibility to build long-term commercial partnerships.
• •Good knowledge of Financial Lines wordings, coverage structures, market practices, pricing considerations and portfolio management principles.
• •Ability to balance commercial opportunity with disciplined risk selection, appropriate pricing and sustainable profitability.
• •Experience in broker development, pipeline management, renewal planning and market-facing business development.
• •People management experience, or the ambition and capability to coach, lead and develop a growing team.
• •Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills.
• •Fluent written and spoken Italian and English.
• •University degree or equivalent professional experience; insurance or underwriting qualifications are an advantage.
• •Confident user of Microsoft Office and able to work effectively with underwriting and portfolio management systems.
