Skeleton Key is a game development studio and division of Wizards of the Coast. We are a group of people who are guided by the belief that by empowering our teams and providing the necessary time, tools, and support we can foster a creative culture where everyone can do their best work.
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Gameplay Designer with a passion for creating compelling combat, enemies, and encounters, to join our Montreal team and help bring our first AAA game to life.
What You'll Do:
Design, implement, and tune enemies, abilities, and combat behaviors.
Create NPC AI using Unreal Engine tools and visual scripting.
Build engaging encounter compositions that support pacing and progression.
Take gameplay features from prototype through implementation and polish.
Balance combat difficulty, enemy roles, and player-facing feedback.
Collaborate with design, animation, engineering, and level teams.
Provide feedback and mentorship to other gameplay designers.
What You'll Bring:
Senior-level experience designing combat for action or action RPG titles.
Experience creating enemies, abilities, AI behaviors, and encounters.
Strong Unreal Engine and visual scripting skills.
A deep understanding of combat pacing, balance, readability, and player feedback.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
At least one shipped AAA or comparable title.
Nice to Have:
Experience designing boss encounters.
Familiarity with Unreal Behavior Trees, EQS, and Gameplay Ability System.
Experience working with animation systems and combat metrics.
Experience with 1st-person action combat and mechanics.
