Ready to join the future of innovation in R&D IT at NXP?

NXP R&D IT manages a large-scale design infrastructure that enables R&D activities in NXP. The design infrastructure consists of 10,000 plus servers located in 7 multi-cloud data centers across the globe.

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior HPC Linux DevOps Engineer to join our High Performance Computing (HPC) team within NXP R&D IT. This role has a strong focus on automation, tooling, and software development applied to large-scale HPC and VDI environments.

In this role, you will work closely with your global colleagues within R&D IT and help deliver the HPC services (High Performance Computing and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) to our design engineers. You will spend a significant portion of your time designing and building automation solutions that reduce manual effort, increase reliability, and accelerate delivery across our infrastructure.

Your European team has operational responsibility for all designated services within the region and helps provide backup support to our other two regions (India and the US). The team keeps a healthy mix of 50% development and 50% operational activities, requiring a constant eye on innovation. You can contribute in every development phase — from problem analysis and design to implementation, testing, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions to manage configuration, deployment, and lifecycle of Linux systems and HPC services at scale.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and automated testing frameworks to support continuous delivery of platform changes.
  • Develop and maintain system configurations, base images, and deployment strategies using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.
  • Create reusable automation libraries, scripts, and tooling to reduce manual operational effort and improve system reliability.
  • Oversee the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Linux systems and services; ensure system performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and optimization.
  • Create and enforce policies and standards related to Linux system administration, security, and compliance; develop best practices for system configuration, access methods, and base image creation.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for end users.
  • Collaborate with global teams to deliver HPC and VDI solutions supporting critical R&D operations.
  • Participate in Agile activities such as PI Planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives, and releases.
  • Engage with users and stakeholders to provide technical guidance and continuously improve delivered solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and deployment issues through effective root-cause analysis.
  • Ensure solutions meet standards for security, performance, scalability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement through innovation, automation, and DevOps engineering best practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, automation workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in solution architecture, technical reviews, and technology evaluations to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Approximately 5-7 years of experience in DevOps, automation engineering, or platform engineering roles.
  • Strong proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Perl, or equivalent languages.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
  • Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent tools.
  • Skilled Linux System Administration experience with RedHat or similar distributions.
  • Extensive AWS experience, preferably with certifications; familiarity with cloud-native automation and IaC.
  • Solid DevOps mindset with ability to evaluate and optimize processes using Lean or Agile methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux command-line tools, shell scripting , and automation best practices.
  • Experience integrating automation with APIs, databases, and enterprise platforms .
  • Great problem-solving and analytical skillset to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues at OS level and application level.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering, solution design, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing automation frameworks or internal tooling platforms (e.g., self-service portals, workflow engines, monitoring integrations).
  • Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Podman) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift) for automation workloads.
  • Having knowledge and hands-on experience with Grid computing applications like LSF or Slurm, and Linux desktop environments.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor design and verification tools and workflows.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, including bridging, synchronization, queuing, and communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development, code review tools, or LLM-based automation is an advantage.

Additionally, you should possess:

  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to new technologies.
