Senior Industrial Designer

We are seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to translate design vision into production-ready form language for our next-generation robotic platforms. You will own form development from early volumetric exploration through surface refinement — defining what our robots look and feel like while ensuring designs are manufacturable from the start. You’ll work at the intersection of aesthetics and engineering, balancing proportion, character, and visual brand coherence with the realities of complex electromechanical packaging, dynamic articulation, and production tooling.

• Key job responsibilities
• - Form Development & Surface Refinement: Explore, iterate, and refine complex multi-part robotic enclosures, articulating fairings, and structural chassis using Rhino, SubD, Alias, or Blender — from rapid volumetric studies through production-intent surfacing with Class-A quality standards.
• - Design for Manufacturing: Incorporate draft angles, parting line strategy, wall thickness constraints, and tooling considerations into the design process from the start. Develop surfaces with production intent across injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, and composite fabrication processes.
• - Unified Design Language: Establish and maintain a cohesive visual brand language across the entire robot — ensuring seamless aesthetic and proportional transitions between static and moving components.
• - Dynamic Articulation & Clearances: Explore and resolve how physical panels interact, reveal internal mechanisms, and clear dynamic ranges of motion while maintaining design intent.
• - Component Packaging & Integration: Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, robotics, and manufacturing teams to package high-density motor assemblies, cooling systems, battery modules, and sensor arrays into an appealing, functional, and producible envelope.
• - Engineering Handoff: Deliver organized, proportion-locked CAD models (SubD / clean NURBS / production-intent surfaces) with clear design intent documentation — character lines, highlight priorities, parting line intent, and DFM annotations ready for tooling development.

Basic qualifications

• - 5+ years of industrial design experience with a focus on complex physical products (robotics, automotive, medical devices, consumer electronics, or similar electromechanical systems)
• - Experience working directly with mechanical engineering and manufacturing engineering teams through production
• - Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Product Design, or related field
• - Expert-level proficiency in Rhino, SubD modeling, Alias, Blender, or Plasticity with demonstrated ability to develop refined surfaces efficiently
• - Portfolio demonstrating exceptional sense of proportion, visual hierarchy, and unified aesthetic across complex, multi-component mechanical systems where multiple subsystems must integrate and interact
• - Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal forming, die casting, and composite fabrication
• - Understanding of dynamic kinematic clearances, packaging volumes for motors/electronics, and thermal management considerations
• - Proven ability to maintain clean model organization, logical parting line intent, and deliver production-ready STEP/mesh files

Preferred qualifications

• - Experience designing articulated or dynamic mechanical systems (robotics, automotive, powered equipment)
• - Class-A surfacing skills in Alias or equivalent
• - Experience taking designs from concept through tooling kickoff
• - Background in automotive, surgical robotics, or consumer robotics design studios
• - Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance stack-up considerations at the industrial design level
• - Proficiency in Gravity Sketch, Vizcom AI, or other rapid visualization tools
• - Experience with physical prototyping workflows (3D printing, CNC, soft tooling)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
