DHL Group is the world’s leading logistics provider. We connect people and markets and enable global trade. Our ambition is to be the first choice for customers, employees and investors worldwide.

Sustainable aviation is transforming rapidly, and regulation is evolving with it. At DHL Group, you will work at the intersection of law, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), international regulation and commercial business.

In this (senior) legal role, you will advise our businesses on complex regulatory and contractual questions surrounding sustainable aviation fuels and aviation fuel regulation. Your work will cover emerging frameworks such as ReFuelEU Aviation, RED III and ICAO CORSIA, as well as innovative concepts such as Book & Claim.

(Senior) Legal Counsel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel & Energy Regulation (m/f/d)

Bonn | full-time | permanent

  • Your Responsibilities
  • Act as a (senior) legal advisor on Sustainable Aviation Fuel, aviation fuel regulation and related ESG matters, supporting DHL Group businesses in an international environment.
  • Monitor and assess regulatory developments, particularly ReFuelEU Aviation, RED III and ICAO CORSIA, and translate their implications into actionable recommendations for the business.
  • Advise on Book & Claim structures, including certification requirements, chains of custody and recognition across different jurisdictions.
  • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including supplier framework agreements, SAF supply arrangements and Book & Claim agreements.
  • Develop legally robust approaches to SAF-related fuel investments, supply frameworks and commercial solutions.
  • Partner with Procurement, Finance and other specialist functions to develop implementation strategies that meet regulatory and commercial requirements.
  • Provide legal support on sustainability-related aspects of investments, M&A transactions, partnerships and joint ventures.
  • Represent DHL Group in relevant industry forums and networks and share regulatory knowledge through training and guidance for internal stakeholders
  • Your profile
  • A degree in law or a comparable legal qualification. International legal qualifications are explicitly welcome.
  • Several years of relevant legal advisory experience, ideally gained within an international corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG, energy, fuels and/or related regulatory matters. Experience in aviation or energy is an advantage.
  • Extensive experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating sophisticated commercial agreements.
  • The ability to analyse regulatory change and translate it into practical recommendations and implementation approaches.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, including the ability to negotiate effectively. German and additional languages are advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management capabilities and the confidence to work independently in a rapidly evolving international regulatory environment.

Why Join This Role?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of legal topics that sit directly at the intersection of aviation, sustainability, regulation and international commerce.

Rather than advising from the sidelines, you will work closely with the business to help turn evolving regulatory requirements into commercial solutions and contribute to DHL Group's wider decarbonization ambitions

  • Your Benefits
