The Senior Manager, Total Rewards leads GuideStone’s total rewards function, including compensation, benefits, wellness/well-being, recognition, and job architecture. This role sets direction for total rewards programs, owns salary grades, ranges, leveling, and market alignment, and ensures programs are competitive, fair, cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with enterprise goals. The role makes decisions based on business objectives and allocated resources, with latitude to achieve defined goals set by upper management, and manages the activities of first-level managers and/or supervisors with direct reports across compensation and benefits/well-being. The role partners with senior leadership and HR to ensure total rewards strategies are competitive, cost-effective, sustainable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise goals — driving impact, navigating complexity, building effective teams, and reinforcing GuideStone’s high-performance culture. We serve those that serve the Lord with the integrity of our hearts and the skillfulness of our hands. (Psalm 78:72)
What You'll Do:
Success in this role is measured by how well total rewards programs advance enterprise priorities, strengthen attraction and retention, reinforce pay-for-performance and internal equity, manage cost and compliance risk responsibly, improve leader and team member understanding, and build a capable, responsive Total Rewards team.
Total Rewards Strategy & Governance:
Set and execute a total rewards strategy aligned with GuideStone’s business objectives, compensation philosophy, enterprise priorities, and high-performance culture.
Own total rewards governance, budgets, and cost modeling; bring clear, data-informed recommendations to the CHRO and executive leadership, and ensure programs remain competitive, sustainable, compliant, and a best fit with GuideStone’s culture.
Compensation Program Design:
Oversee the design, administration, and communication of compensation programs, including base salary, the annual incentive plan (AIP), other variable pay, and executive compensation in partnership with the CHRO and external advisors.
Direct market analysis and benchmarking using leading compensation surveys (e.g., Mercer, Willis Towers Watson, Radford, Culpepper) to keep pay competitive, internally equitable, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
Oversee the design, competitiveness, administration, and communication of sales incentive programs in partnership with sales leadership and Finance.
Job Architecture & Annual Compensation Cycle:
Own salary grades, ranges, job leveling, and market alignment; oversee job evaluations and scheduled market data refreshes so roles stay accurately leveled and competitively paid.
Maintain the job architecture framework, including job families, levels, titles, and job description standards, in partnership with HR Business Partners and division leadership.
Manage the end-to-end annual compensation cycle, including merit increases, promotions, and AIP/bonus distribution, ensuring decisions are fair, documented, within budget, and aligned with GuideStone’s pay-for-performance philosophy; monitor pay equity, compression, and out-of-range pay.
Benefits & Well-Being Program Management:
Oversee GuideStone’s employee health, welfare, retirement, and wellness/well-being programs, ensuring they meet team member needs, comply with applicable requirements, and support the enterprise’s financial objectives.
Lead the annual benefits renewal and plan review, including plan design, employer contribution strategy, and cost modeling, in partnership with Finance, GuideStone’s benefit plan areas, and vendors.
Evaluate benefit offerings and recommend enhancements such as financial wellness, mental health support, and work-life balance initiatives, balancing team member experience with stewardship.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Lead, mentor, and develop the Total Rewards team across compensation and benefits/well-being; set priorities, build capability (including cross-training), strengthen processes, manage performance, and ensure the team provides timely, accurate, data-informed guidance.
Partner with HR Business Partners, Finance, Legal, HRIS, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, and senior leadership so total rewards programs are aligned, well governed, consistently applied, and help attract and retain top talent.
Communication, Education & Recognition:
Lead communication and change management that help team members and leaders understand total rewards, the compensation philosophy, benefits, recognition, and the annual compensation cycle; establish a regular cadence that builds transparency, trust, and consistent leader messaging.
Equip managers with training and tools to explain and administer total rewards programs, and oversee recognition programs that reinforce GuideStone’s culture.
Represent GuideStone’s total rewards expertise with ministry partners and clients as requested, including presentations and recommendations.
