Description
The Senior Operations Supervisor coordinates staff scheduling and provides hands-on supervision of arena conversions, event setups, and operational readiness at Landers Center. This position leads crews through time-sensitive conversions for hockey, arena football, and NBA basketball events, ensuring each configuration is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Overnight work is required periodically, but this is not a dedicated overnight position. The department rotates overnight supervision among multiple supervisors based on event needs.
The position also oversees part-time operations staff supporting the new convention center, scheduled to open in 2027, including room setups, event changeovers, and breakdowns. This role requires a dependable leader who can organize crews, manage competing priorities, and maintain clear communication across shifts and departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and maintain staff schedules based on the event calendar, conversion timelines, crew availability, and approved labor budgets; coordinate the rotation of overnight supervision with other department supervisors and adjust coverage for absences and event changes.
- Assign daily and overnight work, conduct pre-shift briefings, establish priorities, and monitor progress to meet event readiness deadlines.
- Lead arena conversions between hockey, arena football, NBA basketball, concerts, and other event configurations, following approved layouts and operating procedures.
- Oversee the installation, removal, protection, and storage of event equipment, including ice covers, basketball flooring and goals, football turf and field components, seating, barricades, staging, and related equipment.
- Coordinate conversion sequencing with event management, ice operations, maintenance, and other departments to protect playing surfaces, equipment, and the facility.
- Inspect completed setups for accuracy, cleanliness, safety, and readiness; correct deficiencies and communicate completion or delays to management.
- Provide clear shift handoffs documenting completed work, outstanding tasks, equipment concerns, and staffing needs.
STAFF SUPERVISION AND CONVENTION CENTER OPERATIONS
- Supervise, train, and coach assigned staff, including part-time convention center crews; explain work expectations and reinforce accountability, teamwork, and professional conduct.
- Coordinate convention center setups and breakdowns according to approved event plans, including tables, chairs, staging, partitions, and other furnishings.
- Support operational preparations for the convention center opening in 2027 through staff training, setup procedures, equipment organization, and readiness checks.
- Monitor attendance and time records, report discrepancies, and provide management with documented performance concerns and coaching needs.
- Enforce safe work practices, proper equipment use, and required protective equipment; promptly address or escalate hazards, injuries, and incidents.
- Maintain conversion checklists, setup records, equipment inventories, and labor reports; identify damaged equipment and submit maintenance needs.
- Perform other related operational duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years of supervisory experience, including scheduling employees, assigning work, and overseeing staff performance.
- Ability to lead crews during assigned shifts, including periodic overnight conversions, and complete multiple tasks under firm event deadlines.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to read event layouts, follow setup instructions, and maintain accurate schedules and operational records.
- Availability to work a variable schedule that includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as event needs require. Overnight assignments are periodic and shared through a rotation among multiple department supervisors; overnight work is not required for every shift.
