Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 120 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado .

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth

Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy

Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion

Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

As Optomechanical Engineer, you will design and deliver precision optical-mechanical assemblies for high-power laser facilities, with particular emphasis on beam transport and vacuum-compatible systems.

You will take ownership from concept and mechanical analysis through drawings, manufacturing, assembly, alignment, integration and commissioning, working closely with laser, optics, vacuum and controls specialists.

Your responsibilities

Design precision optomechanical assemblies including mirror mounts, positioning stages, optical supports and beam transport structures for high-power laser systems.

Develop vacuum-compatible mechanical designs, selecting suitable materials, seals, feedthroughs and motion mechanisms while considering cleanliness, outgassing and thermal performance.

Produce 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings, GD&T, tolerance analyses, bills of materials and controlled engineering documentation.

Perform or coordinate structural, modal, vibration and thermal analyses to ensure optical alignment, mechanical stability and positioning accuracy.

Coordinate fabrication and supplier activities; support precision assembly, optical alignment, installation, integration, troubleshooting and commissioning.

What you bring

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanics, Precision Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.

Proven experience designing precision optomechanical devices and mechanisms, ideally for high-power lasers or scientific instrumentation.

Practical experience with vacuum-compatible mechanical systems and beam transport assemblies, including mechanical interfaces and alignment concepts.

Strong skills in 3D CAD, manufacturing drawings, GD&T, material selection, precision machining and mechanical tolerance management.

Hands-on experience with manufacturing follow-up, assembly, alignment, testing and commissioning in multidisciplinary technical environments.

What sets you apart

Experience with high-energy laser beamlines, large optics, laser compressors or complex scientific facilities.

Knowledge of high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum practices, vacuum cleanliness, motion feedthroughs and pumping-system interfaces.

Experience with structural and thermal FEA, modal analysis, vibration isolation and stability-sensitive optical systems.

Familiarity with motorized positioning stages, actuators, encoders and precision alignment methods.

Independent problem-solving, practical engineering judgment and effective collaboration with optics, laser, vacuum and controls teams.

What we offer

Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth:
