Senior PCB Designer

Company: Infinitum

Location: Liberty Lake, WA/Austin, TX

Work Arrangement: Full-time, Onsite

About the Role

Infinitum is seeking an experienced Senior PCB Designer to lead the design, layout, and manufacturing release of complex multilayer printed circuit boards for our PCB stator motors and industrial Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

Working onsite alongside electrical, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing engineers, you will translate complex schematics into reliable, manufacturable layouts and play a key role in maintaining our PCB design standards, Altium libraries, manufacturing documentation, and engineering release processes.

Key Responsibilities

PCB Design and Layout

Lead PCB layout and design for PCB stators, industrial motor controllers, VFDs, gate drivers, and power conversion systems, from component placement and stackup definition through routing and manufacturing output generation.

Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to translate schematic requirements into optimized PCB layouts.

Apply best practices for high-current routing, high-voltage isolation, grounding, signal integrity, high-speed design, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal management.

Design mixed-signal layouts that place sensitive analog and digital control circuits alongside high-power switching circuits.

Implement heavy-copper design practices, thermal vias, high-current interconnects, and appropriate power distribution techniques.

Altium Design Rules and Verification

Configure, manage, and validate custom Altium Design Rule Check (DRC) requirements, including electrical clearances, routing constraints, differential pairs, and layer-specific rules.

Implement design constraints that enforce creepage, clearance, insulation, and high-voltage isolation requirements.

Lead and participate in design reviews, resolve DRC violations before manufacturing release, and recommend improvements to manufacturability, reliability, and cost.

PCB Libraries and Design Standards

Develop and maintain Altium component libraries, including schematic symbols, PCB footprints, 3D models, and component data, with footprints and land patterns that meet IPC standards and manufacturer recommendations.

Design and maintain standardized schematic and PCB templates, fabrication and assembly drawings, and output job configurations.

Work with the engineering team to establish and continuously improve PCB design standards, workflows, library accuracy, and documentation consistency.

Manufacturing Release and Supplier Support

Prepare complete fabrication and assembly documentation packages, including drawings, Gerber/ODB++ outputs, drill files, pick-and-place data, and BOMs.

Manage PCB and PCA design releases, revisions, and engineering change documentation through the company’s PLM system, ensuring design files and documentation are accurate, controlled, and traceable.

Verify designs against applicable IPC standards and DFM/DFA guidelines, including fabricator and assembler capabilities, prior to release.

Work with domestic and international PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers to investigate and resolve DFM, DFA, and production issues, and implement the resulting design improvements.

Support prototype builds, including component procurement and contract manufacturer coordination as needed, through design validation and the transition to volume manufacturing.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; Associate degree in Electronics Technology or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum of 10 years of professional PCB layout and design experience, including complex multilayer designs developed independently from schematic through production release.

Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer (10 years), including PCB layout, component library management, design templates, custom DRC configuration, and manufacturing output generation.

Strong understanding of multilayer PCB stackups, controlled impedance, differential pair routing, return-path management, and signal integrity fundamentals.

Experience with high-current, high-voltage, and mixed-signal PCB design, including creepage, clearance, and EMI/EMC design principles.

Extensive knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, DFM/DFA, and applicable IPC standards, including IPC-2221, IPC-2152, IPC-7351/7352, IPC-A-600, and IPC-A-610.

Experience preparing manufacturing documentation and managing engineering revisions in a PLM or formal document control system.

Strong troubleshooting, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PCB layout experience on industrial motor drives, VFDs, inverters, or power conversion equipment.

Experience designing heavy-copper (2 oz and above) and high-layer-count PCBs with complex stackups, high-current power distribution, and demanding thermal or fabrication requirements.

Experience with Arena PLM (Arena Solutions), including BOM control, engineering change orders (ECOs), and revision tracking for PCA releases.

IPC Certified Interconnect Designer (CID or CID+) certification.

Experience supporting high-volume PCB/PCA manufacturing with domestic and international suppliers, including resolving production yield issues.

About Infinitum
