About ShiftKey
ShiftKey is a platform that is disrupting the way healthcare facilities find licensed and certified professionals to fill available shifts. Leveraging marketplace dynamics and deep industry knowledge, the company is playing a vital role in mitigating America’s healthcare staffing shortages, enabling direct connections between facilities and healthcare professionals. By offering the opportunity to work as much or as little as they choose and putting the power back into the hands of healthcare workers, ShiftKey is bringing more licensed professionals back into the workforce, a solution that is solving a major crisis in healthcare. For more information, visit www.ShiftKey.com .
The role
We’re a healthcare technology company running two products: a SaaS platform and a two-sided marketplace platform, both operating under strict regulatory requirements. This role focuses on the SaaS side, the product our customers rely on to run their day. When it’s down, they feel it. You’d own its reliability: keeping it available, keeping the infrastructure underneath it stable and secure, and building the guardrails that let other engineering teams ship without breaking things.
This is a senior seat on a small team, and the team is still being built out. You won’t be handed a finished reliability practice or a long runbook. You’ll make real calls, and some of them will be ambiguous. In return you get a lot of autonomy, a lot of influence over how we do things, and a chance to leave a visible mark on a regulated platform that matters.
Where you’ll work
This is a fully remote position based in the United States. You should be comfortable working asynchronously and partnering with teammates in different time zones.
What you’ll be doing
Owning reliability, availability and incident response for our SaaS platform, from detection through postmortem.
Maintaining and extending our cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, managed as code.
Running and improving our Kubernetes-based production environment.
Writing production automation. Scripting is a daily part of this job.
Working closely with software engineering teams so that deploying safely is the easy path, and becoming the person they trust on infrastructure risk.
Mentoring teammates toward independence and helping shape how the reliability function grows.
What you’ll need
5+ years running production infrastructure on AWS and Azure at real scale, ideally for a SaaS product.
Production Kubernetes and Terraform experience, with real incidents behind you, not only deployments.
Hands-on incident ownership: you can walk us through one you handled from detection to postmortem.
Strong automation skills, ideally in Python and Bash, plus experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana or CloudWatch.
Comfort making and defending judgment calls without a manager in the room, and experience mentoring other engineers.
Comfort in a mixed-language environment, and a habit of using AI tools in your daily work.
Perks of working for ShiftKey
Inclusive and collaborative work environment where all voices are valued.
Hybrid-friendly office spaces designed to be fun and engaging.
Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage.
Benefits begin on your first day.
Generous PTO and company-paid holidays, including flexible floating holidays.
100% 401(k) employer match up to 6%.
Paid parental leave.
Wellness support, including access to mental health resources.
