Our dynamic Agile Team delivers the technology for Elsevier's Submissions unit under Academic & Governance.

About the Role: -

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer I, where you will create impactful solutions that support global researchers as they submit their work for publication. You will help drive the continuous evolution of our platform, navigating an ever-changing technical landscape to meet the modern needs of the scientific community.

Responsibilities: -

• •Designing, developing and deploying applications in a cloud-hosted distributed system to build our next-generation product
• •Collaborating with business stakeholders to identify requirements and gather feedback in a fast-moving environment
• •Providing input into architectural decisions to ensure stability and performance
• •Identifying and implementing enhancements to continually improve our delivery process
• •Partnering with cross-functional Agile and DevOps implementation teams

Requirements: -

• •Demonstrate some proficiency in most of these technologies; Java, Spring / Spring Boot, a JavaScript / TypeScript tool (React, Angular, etc), SQL with a willingness to learn the others.
• •Display some experience with build tools, Git and continuous integration (GitHub Actions / Jenkins)
• •Experience with AI coding tools(copilot, claude code, codex, antigravity)
• •Experience of Agentic Software Development (Spec-Driven Development) is desired.
• •Enjoy collaborating with team members to create innovative solutions
• •Have some experience of supporting and mentoring team members to share knowledge and up-skill team members
• •Show some experience with alerting, monitoring and logging tools (NewRelic, Coralogix)
• •Have experience with a modern IDE (IntelliJ / VSCode) and proficiency in using the refactoring tools
• •Be open to discussing and honing approaches for our team to improve our working practices
• •Have some experience of test-driven development and mocking libraries (Jest, Mockito)
• •Be familiar with collaborative documentation tools (Jira and Confluence)
• •Have some real world experience of Agile practices and execution (Scrum, Kanban)
• •Have some familiarity with how to design and develop for cloud environments (i.e. docker, Kubernetes, AWS)
• •Wanting to learn or have experience with AI based solutions
• •Be eager to learn and grow my skills and experience
• •Be aware of industry best practices and standards
