About our Team

The NPRE (New Peer Review Experience) team is part of Elsevier's publishing technology organization and is focused on transforming the peer review process. The team develops products and capabilities that support researchers, reviewers, and editors throughout the submission and peer review journey, helping improve the overall scientific publishing experience.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer, you will help design, develop, and deploy applications within a cloud-hosted distributed environment that powers next-generation products. Working closely with business stakeholders and cross-functional Agile and DevOps teams, you will contribute to technical solutions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help deliver high-quality software that creates value for customers.

Responsibilities

• •Designing, developing and deploying applications in a cloud-hosted distributed system to build our next-generation product
• •Collaborating with business stakeholders to identify requirements and gather feedback in a fast-moving environment
• •Providing input into architectural decisions to ensure stability and performance
• •Identifying and implementing enhancements to continually improve our delivery process
• •Partnering with cross-functional Agile and DevOps implementation teams

Requirements

• •Demonstrate some proficiency in some of these technologies; JavaScript / TypeScript, Frontend frameworks, Java/SpringBoot, SQL with a willingness to learn the others.
• •Display some experience with build tools, Git and continuous integration
• •Enjoy collaborating with team members to create innovative solutions
• •Have some experience of supporting and mentoring team members to share knowledge and up-skill team members
• •Show some experience with alerting, monitoring and logging tools
• •Have experience with a modern IDE and proficiency in using the refactoring tools
• •Be open to discussing and honing approaches for our team to improve our working practices
• •Have some experience of test-driven development and mocking libraries
• •Have some real-world experience of Agile practices and execution
• •Have some experience of designing and developing for cloud environments
• •Be familiar with AI coding tools
• •Be familiar with how to design and develop for cloud environments (i.e. docker, Kubernetes, AWS)
• •Some experience of Agentic software development is desired
• •Wanting to learn or have experience with AI based solutions
• •Be eager to learn and grow my skills and experience
• •Be aware of industry best practices and standards
