Key Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction, architecture and operational health of a domain or significant application area.
  • Lead complex initiatives from requirements and design through implementation, release and production stabilization.
  • Make independent technical decisions, explain trade-offs, and simplify systems while balancing speed, quality, security, performance and cost.
  • Define and improve engineering practices for coding, testing, code review, CI/CD, configuration management, observability and incident response.
  • Partner with product, architecture, security, platform and other engineering teams to resolve dependencies and deliver outcomes.
  • Mentor engineers across teams, contribute to technical reviews, knowledge sharing, hiring and onboarding.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools for design, coding, testing, documentation, debugging and analysis, while validating outputs for correctness, security and maintainability.

Competencies

  • Domain ownership: Recognized as a dependable technical authority who drives durable improvements across a system or domain.
  • Operational excellence: Anticipates non-functional needs and builds reliable, observable, secure and supportable solutions.
  • Technical judgment: Evaluates alternatives and selects pragmatic solutions based on evidence and business context.
  • Ownership and accountability: Takes responsibility beyond individual code changes, follows through on commitments and addresses root causes.
  • Communication and collaboration: Communicates clearly, aligns stakeholders, mentors others and leads with expertise rather than ego.
  • Autonomy, curiosity and scrappiness: Acts with urgency, challenges inefficient practices, explores alternatives and escalates risks early.

Technical Skills

An ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with:

  • .NET / ASP.NET Core, C# and RESTful APIs
  • React, TypeScript and modern front-end development
  • AWS services and cloud-native application development
  • PostgreSQL and/or DynamoDB, including data modelling and performance considerations

  • Git, CI/CD, automated testing, code quality and secure development practices
  • Agile/Scrum delivery using tools such as Jira
  • AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Claude Code

Preferred: Python, Node.js, OpenAPI/Swagger, infrastructure as code, observability platforms and experience defining SLAs/SLOs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Typically 5-8 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including ownership of complex production systems and technical leadership beyond an individual module or feature.
